Excellent article by Paul, as always. One of the important drivers of investment in rail infrastructure in this region is the DRC link to the Lobito corridor. The 733km Kolwezi-Dilolo-Lubumbashi section is crucial. The Kolwezi-Dilolo section is in poor condition but operational from time to time. Success on this section will make the Zambia connection to DRC / Angola viable. I would be interested to know what the Lobito Atlantic Railway Consortium has in mind for this section of the railway line. Will they use the existing infrastructure built in the 1920s, or will they build a completely new line to Dilolo? Can anyone shed some light on this? Be that as it may, this region has a lot of business potential, and companies should keep this in mind as they plan their business development strategies. Consider using the Employer of Record solution to ensure you have an early presence in this region. Contact me (roelof@africa-deployments.com) for more information on how you can establish a presence without overextending your firm. #RailInfrastructure #DRC #LobitoCorridor #BusinessPotential #Investment #RailwayConsortium #KolweziDilolo #EmployerOfRecord #BusinessDevelopment

The #Magufuli Bridge in #Tanzania, while primarily a national infrastructure project, has several indirect #economic impacts on #Kenya. It will likely influence regional #trade dynamics, potentially increasing #competition for Kenyan #Ports and transport #routes (The bridge could provide an alternative route for businesses in East Africa, reducing #reliance on Kenyan Ports because now Tanzania's Port of #Mwanza becomes more #accessible and could compete with Kenyan ports as a #transshipment hub for goods destined for #inland countries like #Uganda, #Rwanda, and the #Democratic Republic of Congo) while offering opportunities for deeper integration and collaboration in East Africa. While some sectors in Kenya may feel competitive pressure, others—particularly in #logistics (An opportunity for Kenyan logistics firms to capitalize on the improved connectivity by expanding their operations into Tanzania or developing integrated cross-border logistics solutions), #tourism (Kenyan tourism operators may benefit from improved access to Tanzanian tourist sites, and vice versa), and #investment (The bridge could trigger investment in industries such as fishing, mining, and agriculture, as businesses on both sides of Lake Victoria gain easier access to resources and markets) — stand to #benefit from improved connectivity across the region. #logistics #investments #infrastructure #eac #CEOs #transportation EAST AFRICA COMMUNITY CENTER East Africa Community Tracker Initiative

Nigeria’s Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Mr. Adegboyega Oyetola, highlights the importance of intermodal transportation—connecting ports with roads, rail, and waterways to streamline the movement of goods. This integration will reduce delays, lower costs, and make our ports more competitive globally! At the Nigeria Transport Summit in Lagos, Oyetola emphasized how this system can also cut down congestion, reduce emissions, and boost economic growth. With a National Strategy on Blue Economy, the ministry is working to promote sustainable marine resource management and enhance maritime safety. Partnerships with international experts will help us adopt best practices and technology for the future! 🛳️ The goal? A seamless, efficient, and sustainable transport system that benefits people, the environment, and the economy. US EXPLORING EXPANDING THE #LOBITOCORRIDOR TO #TANZANIA 🚂 In addition to refurbishing existing lines, the project envisions adding 1,300 kilometers of railway from Zambia to Tanzania. The project is slated to be finished by 2029. 🗣 “Special Coordinator Helaina Matza will review her travel to the DRC and Tanzania, including opportunities to expand the Lobito Corridor focus on the DRC and integrate Tanzania with the Lobito Corridor investments” 🗣 "..but it’s working on the connection between Kabanga and Kahama, and working how to develop a special economic zone that not only creates opportunities for processing here in country – the nickel products coming out – but hopefully more feedstock from other parts of the country and the region, while investing at the same time in training of local Tanzanians to participate in every part of the value chain of that industry. " 🗣 "But now we’re ready for phase three, and that includes deepening our engagement in DRC, expanding those economic benefits to Tanzania, and then thinking about, beyond the rail, what sectors, as I mentioned in my opening remarks, we can offer the best opportunities for our support as they reflect the development growth needs and desires of the countries we’re working in." Namibia, a vast Southern African nation, exemplifies both the challenges and opportunities facing the continent. This sparsely populated country has leveraged its strategic Atlantic coastline to become a vital logistics hub. The expansion of Walvis Bay and Lüderitz ports, along with the Walvis Bay Development Corridor, has transformed Namibia into a key transit point for landlocked neighbours. While mining, tourism, and fishing remain economic pillars, Namibia is actively diversifying its economy. However, challenges persist, including a limited industrial base leading to high import reliance, and significant economic inequality. The country's commitment to democratic governance and rule of law provides a stable foundation for growth, attracting investment across various sectors. As Namibia navigates its development path, it stands as a microcosm of Africa's broader journey—striking to harness natural resources and strategic advantages while addressing social inequalities and environmental vulnerabilities. Driving Efficiency and Innovation in Developing Markets | Elevating Compliance and Logistics in Dynamic Environments | Enhancing Efficiency and Customer Support in Operations
The Port of Dar es Salaam has been making remarkable strides in efficiency, significantly increasing its cargo handling capacity year on year. In the last fiscal year, the port managed to handle 21.46 million tones of cargo, up from 18 million tones the previous year. This growth is vital as the port serves as a key gateway for landlocked countries in East Africa, including Zambia, Malawi, and Rwanda. The recent enhancements, driven by the Dar es Salaam Maritime Gateway Project, have deepened and upgraded the port's infrastructure, enabling it to accommodate larger vessels and streamline operations. This progress is not just about numbers; it underscores the port's strategic importance in bolstering regional trade and economic development. However, to achieve world-class efficiency, several critical challenges need addressing: 1. Reducing congestion and wait times for ships. 2. Enhancing customs processing to minimize delays. 3. Investing in cutting-edge technology for cargo handling and security. These improvements are essential for the Port of Dar es Salaam to become a pillar of Africa's economy, facilitating smoother trade routes and fostering economic growth across the continent. #Trade #Logistics #Infrastructure #Africa #EconomicGrowth
