Almost 20,000 workers at India's major ports have called off their indefinite strike after securing a new five-year agreement, just hours before it was set to begin. This new deal, which includes an 8.5% salary increase over five years, comes after months of intense negotiations and helps avoid further strain on the global supply chain. The strike had been planned following a meeting in Thoothukudi, Tamil Nadu, but the agreement with India's top port authority ensured the workers’ concerns were addressed. This resolution highlights the power of collective bargaining and the importance of open dialogue. #SupplyChain #India #PortWorkers #LaborRights #GlobalTrade

The Nigerian Shippers' Council (NSC) recently intervened in a dispute involving the damage of two export containers of black eye beans, valued at over $104,000, destined for Jebel Ali Port in Dubai. The beans, shipped by USBAB MULTI CHOICE LTD, were damaged during transit, sparking a disagreement between the exporter, the forwarding agent Inland Container Nigeria Limited (ICNL), and the carrier MAERSK Nigeria Limited. The exporter blamed delays on ICNL and MAERSK, claiming timely shipment could have prevented the damage. ICNL countered, pointing to delays caused by port policies and a hold from the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), as well as the exporter’s failure to follow advice on proper container dressing. The NSC organized a series of meetings, bringing all relevant parties, including the Federal Produce Inspection Service (FPIS) and pre-shipment agent Anglia International Services Ltd, to review the case. After careful deliberation, the NSC ruled that ICNL was 70% responsible for the damage, while the exporter bore 30% of the liability for not following expert advice. The Council’s intervention has been pivotal in resolving this matter, with all parties expressing their gratitude for the fair and balanced outcome. #Nigeria #Export #Logistics #Agribusiness #BlackEyeBeans #ShippersCouncil

NDLEA Strikes Again! In a major bust, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has intercepted a staggering 1,596 cartons of codeine-based syrup, containing 319,200 bottles, at the Tincan seaport in Lagos. The street value? Over N2.2 billion! The seizure took place on Friday during a joint operation involving NDLEA operatives and other port stakeholders. The containers, shipped from Mundra port in India, were flagged and thoroughly examined, leading to this significant find. But that's not all. NDLEA’s Special Operations Unit also nabbed five female cross-border drug traffickers at the Seme border, en route to Lagos from Ghana. Among them was a 42-year-old syndicate leader who had been on NDLEA’s radar for some time. A total of 14 packs of Loud, a potent strain of cannabis weighing nearly 7kg, were recovered from hidden parts of their bodies. These efforts highlight the ongoing battle against drug trafficking in Nigeria. Kudos to NDLEA for their relentless dedication to keeping our communities safe! #ndlea #drugseizure #lagosport #semeborder #drugfreenigeria

Traffic Update for Oshodi-Mile 2-Tin Can-Apapa Port Access Road Good news for those navigating the Oshodi-Mile 2-Tin Can-Apapa Port access road! The fuel scarcity that recently led to massive tanker truck queues is finally easing. Traffic flow has significantly improved, especially from Mile 2 to Coconut, thanks to better access at the tank farms. What’s Changed? - Tanker queues reduced: Tank drivers are reporting quicker access to loading facilities, with wait times dropping from several days to just one or two. - New call-up system: The Petroleum Tanker Drivers (PTD) union has implemented a truck call-up system and a task force to keep the traffic orderly and reduce delays. However, congestion still lingers in some areas, particularly on Warehouse Road heading to Apapa Port. The situation is improving, but challenges remain, especially with some depots non-functional due to pipeline vandalism. Let’s hope these positive changes continue! 🙏 #LagosTraffic #FuelScarcity #ApapaPort #OshodiToTinCan #LogisticsNews #ShippingPosition

The Nigerian Shippers Council (NSC) is raising a red flag over the rising rejection of our agro-products on the global stage. Why? The answer is simple: inadequate packaging. At a recent workshop in Makurdi, NSC Executive Secretary, Mr. Pius Ukeyima, emphasized the critical role of proper packaging in ensuring the success of our exports. He pointed out that regions like Benue, rich in agricultural potential, are missing out on significant opportunities due to poor packaging practices. What’s at stake? - Wasted potential: Products like yam, cassava, rice, and livestock from Benue could dominate international markets if only they were properly packaged. - Economic impact: Our economy suffers when our products are rejected due to packaging issues. What can we do? - Adopt international packaging standards: It’s more than just wrapping; it’s about protecting product integrity and boosting marketability. - Use eco-friendly materials: Not only do they meet global regulatory demands, but they also enhance brand image. - Test before export: Prototype and refine your packaging to avoid costly rejections. Let’s stop cutting corners and start setting standards. Proper packaging is not just an option—it’s a necessity for our agro-products to thrive on the global market! #Export #farming #nsc #benue #agroproducts #nigeriaexport
