Here are some fun ways to lend a hand and make an impact on your community: *Park Clean Up - Grab some bags and invite your pals to spend a few hours on trash duty at your favorite green space. *Donate Books - If you have books, magazines or other reading materials collecting dust, put them to good use and donate to a local school or library. *Meals on Wheels - Find a local organization that delivers meals to those in need and see how you can help. Additionally, if you have a friend or neighbor who needs access to food, contact the organization and assist with the paperwork. *Letter Writing – Show members of the military your appreciation with a handwritten letter thanking them for their service and sacrifice. Write a service member you know personally or check out an organization like Operation Gratitude. According to research by Foodbank Australia, 1 in 5 children in Australia experience food insecurity. This means many kids are starting their school day on an empty stomach. "It's not good enough that any child goes without food, let alone many children. When I joined the Living Hope Missions team on a school food delivery run, I saw first-hand the number of children going to school every day, hungry. The reality is that they can't change their circumstances alone and schools don't have enough resources to meet demand. It opened my eyes to what was happening on our doorstep, and I knew we needed to get involved." - Julio Labraga, co-founder and Director, Capspace. Every child should have access to healthy food. That’s why we founded the Most Important Meal project with Living Hope Missions. Through generous donations from our growing partner and volunteer network, we are able to make regular deliveries of food and other essential items to schools in Sydney. Today, we're donating $1000 to Pet Refuge NZ as part of our #12DaysofDTGivingBack festive initiative. Pet Refuge's mission is to remove a barrier to pets and their families escaping domestic violence by providing temporary shelters in New Zealand. The festive season can be a tough time of year for many, but for homes with violence, the added pressures of the holiday season can have difficult consequences. Before Pet Refuge, victims with pets were often faced with a heartbreaking decision: leave their beloved pet behind to enter emergency housing or stay and live with violence - many chose to stay. According to the Team at Pet Refuge: “We’re so grateful to be a recipient of your 12 days of giving initiative, and it really couldn’t have come at a better time. There’s always a need for our service but Christmas is especially hard with the added pressures on Kiwi homes.
