In 2022, a NSW public sector review identified actions to increase the proportion of people with disability employed in the public sector. Agencies have made significant progress in this whole-of-government work program. This includes using one consistent definition of disability, creating workplace adjustment passports and hosting quarterly inclusion forums. Read more about this important program and all the cross-agency collaboration in our State of the NSW Public Sector Report 2023: https://bit.ly/48j5Pi3

In 1938, the Fair Labor Standards Act was trying to increase disability employment when it allowed employers to pay disabled workers less (for doing the same work), and also segregate their disabled employees from their other employees. Today these old, 1930s ideas of subminimum wage and sheltered workshops are still in place, perpetuating disability discrimination in employment. Disabled people have more economic independence and community integration than ever before, but for many, that reality is not reflected at work when they are segregated and underpaid. Everyone should be paid fairly for their work, period. Congress is considering The Transformation to Competitive Integrated Employment Act (TCIEA), legislation which would end this unfair practice for good. Seventeen states have already passed legislation eliminating subminimum wage, and it's time to enact it nationwide. Join us in calling for Congress to #EndSubminimumWage. Did you know that in many states it’s still legal to pay people with disabilities less than minimum wage just because of their disability? Some earn as little as $3.34 an hour. Although 17 states have banned this, there is not a national ban on this practice yet. Learn more: https://lnkd.in/gs-wMBsP #EndSubminimumWages #FairPayForAll #CenterOnDisability
