Did you know that January 28th is International Lego Day? 🤔 It marks the day the first patent for the Lego brick was submitted in Denmark back in 1958. ⭐ And as we live in Denmark 🇩🇰, it feels extra special! As a mom of a small boy, Legos are a big part of our daily routine. 🧱 I can't help but laugh when I see him trying to build the tallest tower ever 🏰 or make robots 🤖 that end up as more of a pile of blocks. But there’s something magical in that chaos, creativity, problem-solving, and endless imagination. 🧱✨ Lego bricks are a lot like life. Clearly it means - they are not a mere toy company! It means LEGO exists to inspire and develop the builders of tomorrow - the children! Their toys are the tools of inspiration among many other offerings from them. They don’t merely entertain the children. They inspire them to learn and build their ability to build a future! (https://lnkd.in/gy6ZCTcC.) This company was facing bankruptcy in 2003. Why? Because, they had forgotten what their “consumers” wanted & of course #financialprudence took a leave of absence. Not paying attention to consumer costed the business dearly. Getting distracted and spending money on unimportant things bled them whatever they earned. The video below explains how LEGO rebuilt itself brick by brick, painfully to regain the lost glory! Laser sharp focus on customer experience, exemplary financial prudence and resilience made this phoenix raise from its ashes! There’s a lesson here for every business: 1. This epic the LEGO Group waterpark almost stalled mid construction. My 9-year-old spent hours assembling this. But when it came time to add stickers midway through, she couldn’t find them anywhere and decided to (very dramatically) stop building completely. Pretty certain that my post-Christmas cleanup rampage resulted in these stickers landing in the trash, I went to the Lego website. What followed was the most painless customer transaction of my life: a quick input of the easy to find product number, my address and a no questions asked confirmation that the free stickers would arrive next week. Start to finish: 2-minutes and no human interaction. Talk about ease of transaction. The result? A rejuvenated Lego enthusiast who is eagerly awaiting the set’s final touches…and already asking for her next set. Loyal brands (and associations) create loyal customers (and members).

While building our latest monster Lego set (Disney Castle) we started talking about playing with Lego when I was a kid (not yesterday) vs now. Of course, when I was a kid I had a box of bricks and would build something, break it down, and build something else...purpose manufactured sets were rare. Today the opposite is true, when you buy Lego you typically are buying a set that comes with instructions and often thousands of pieces - typically, the more pieces the higher the price. That got me thinking about Lego's relationship between Revenues, Profitability, Number of Sets Released in a Year, and the Average Number of Pieces per Set.
