🔵🔴 FC Barcelona, a Club where it's not all sunshine and rainbows 🔵🔴 In the wake of Xavi's recent revelations about feeling undervalued on a daily basis, it's disheartening to acknowledge that this toxic dynamic isn't a novel occurrence at the club. Having witnessed immensely talented and capable individuals working for the Blaugrana, it's perplexing to see so many footballing legends part ways with the club under strained circumstances. Is it a reflection of the leadership's inadequacy for a club with such a storied history, or perhaps a unique facet of Catalan identity? Xavi's conversations with Pep and Luis Enrique unveil a unanimous sentiment – a lack of enjoyment within the Barcelona realm. While it's undeniable that top-tier clubs come with heightened expectations, no one aspires to be in an environment where the joy is overshadowed by negativity. As a descendant of ardent Catalan supporters, it pains me to suggest that all facets of the club – management, players, and fans – need to engage in self-reflection to overcome these challenges. The aim should be to transform the club into a globally competitive entity, free from controversies and discontent. The global audience is acutely aware that Barcelona has a tendency to not adequately cherish its stars, often entangled in unnecessary controversies. In today's post we talk about a unique form of MCO under Michelle Kang. Michelle Kang recently took ownership of London City Lionesses, a club in the Women's Championship which was formed after the existing women's team split from Millwall Football Club. The club recently signed Kosovare Asllani, captain of the Sweden national side, which was described as "a statement of intent that will have raised eyebrows around the global women's game". Kang also owns 35% of Washington Spirit, a club in the National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) and is the majority owner (52%) of OL Féminin. The MCO structure is unique and interesting as two of the clubs only ply their trade in women's football leagues without being affiliated to an entity running a men's team. This is something of interest to Mercury/13 as well, as they try to build a MCO structure comprised only of women's football clubs. The ownership group is made up of some well known names such as Eniola Aluko MBE, Luis Vicente, Michael Broughton and Ebru Koksal, CFA. It will be interesting to investigate the financial sustainability of a club for whom women's football is only business as compared to clubs who run football teams for both men and women. #MCO #MultiClubOwnership #SportBiz #SportBusiness #SportFinance

What business can learn from sports and an awesome kid... There are some moments that capture everything that sports and noble sportsmanship stand for and that was the moment yesterday. It was given to us by Giannakis, a friend of PAOK FC, saying to Olympiacos FC goalkeeper Konstantinos Tzolakis: “You are the best, I hope you win the Conference Cup”. PAOK had some chances but was disqualified from the quarterfinals. From a little one, we learned the truth once more. That Konstantinos Tzolakis is what he seems(!) and how important it is for the sports community for a Greek team to win a European title. And let that be the UEFA Conference League. The already degraded standard of Greek sports must rise higher for all of us involved. Clubs, Organisations, Companies. Let this be the spark that will inspire the rest of the professional football teams. In business, let's not forget that second or last place is temporary. The international success of a rival sets the bar higher for all of us, "if they can do it we can do it better, and we will". That should be the mindset that accompanies the "I wish you conquer it" statement. Because we will conquer the next one, so we will raise our level and our successes. This example should accompany all business groups, whether they are business sectors or groups of employees in the same company.
