Potassium nitrate, also known as saltpeter, is a chemical compound with the molecular formula KNO3. It is a crystalline salt that is commonly used in the production of fertilizers, fireworks, and as a food preservative. Potassium nitrate is composed of potassium ions (K+) and nitrate ions (NO3-), and is typically a white or colorless solid that is soluble in water. Its chemical properties make it useful in a variety of applications, ranging from agriculture and horticulture to the production of gunpowder and rocket fuel. Uses Fertilizer: Potassium nitrate is widely used as a fertilizer because of its high solubility in water, which allows plants to easily absorb the nutrients. It provides plants with nitrogen and potassium, two essential elements needed for healthy growth. Food preservation: Potassium nitrate is used as a food preservative, especially in cured meats such as ham and bacon. It helps to prevent the growth of harmful bacteria, and also gives cured meats their characteristic pink color. Pyrotechnics: Potassium nitrate is a common ingredient in fireworks and other pyrotechnic devices. When mixed with other chemicals, it can create a variety of colors and effects. Gunpowder: Potassium nitrate is one of the three key ingredients in gunpowder (along with charcoal and sulfur). Gunpowder has been used for centuries as a propellant for firearms and other explosive devices. Toothpaste: Potassium nitrate is sometimes added to toothpaste as a desensitizing agent to help reduce tooth sensitivity. Medicinal: Potassium nitrate has also been used for medicinal purposes, such as to treat angina, high blood pressure, and as a diuretic. However, its medical use has largely been replaced by other drugs. Our product offering can also be sold as #FoodAdditives and is manufactured under the strict quality provisions of our food safety program. Many products are 100% derived from natural plant sources, are non-toxic and serve multiple functions in personal care formulations. #PolyglycerolEsters (PGE’s) are made by the polymerization of glycerin and then esterification with a fatty acid. The glycerin polymer chain length and the degree of esterification determines the physical properties of the ester. PGE’s are made from all natural and renewable raw material sources that have not been genetically modified. PGE’s can replace ethoxylated nonionic surfactants and are multifunctional additives that have emollient properties. #GlycerolEsters are derived from vegetable sources and function as co-emulsifiers that work in conjunction with higher HLB emulsifiers to form stable emulsions. These esters also act as lubricants and can help solubilize other additives into a wide range of formulations. #SorbitanEsters are low HLB surfactants derived from vegetable sources. Sorbitan esters function as co-emulsifiers and work particularly well with polysorbates to form stable emulsions with increased viscosity. #Polysorbates are high HLB surfactants made via the ethoxylation of sorbitan esters. The HLBs of these surfactants also range from water dispersible to water soluble and have superior stability across all types of formulations, including both acidic and caustic systems. #PEGesters are made via the esterification of polyethylene glycols with fatty acids and serve multiple functions in personal care formulations.
