Farmers are fed up with being kept in the dark about what’s driving prices across the country’s agricultural supply chains. At the highest level, the lack of market price transparency may mean that a farmer is paying more for their inputs and receiving less for their output. This squeeze between higher input prices and lower output prices reduces farm incomes. If you value Aussie grown, help us protect Aussie farms. (AUSTRALIA) "If you value Aussie grown, help us protect Aussie farms." ----- [AG: It's disheartening to witness the apparent inability of the National Farmers Federation (NFF) - together with their "partners" NSW Farmers, WA Farmers, AGForce, Australian Livestock Exporters Council, Canegrowers and Cotton Australia - to effectively advocate for the interests of Australian farmers. While the "Keep our Farmers Farming" campaign calls upon the public for support, one must question why the NFF, as a representative body, is not taking more proactive measures to address the issues at hand. One possible explanation could be the complexity of the challenges faced by the agricultural industry, which may require a multifaceted approach. However, it is crucial for the NFF to demonstrate strong leadership and transparent communication about their strategies and initiatives. The public, as well as farmers, need to be informed about the specific actions being taken to enhance market price transparency, negotiate fair terms, and ultimately protect the livelihoods of those working in the agriculture sector. Additionally, the NFF should actively engage with stakeholders, including government bodies, to enact policy changes that benefit farmers. If the federation is struggling to fulfill its role, there is a need for a critical examination of its internal processes and a reevaluation of its effectiveness as a representative entity. Ultimately, open communication and a clear demonstration of tangible efforts by the NFF are essential to instill confidence in the public and farmers alike. It is crucial for the NFF to actively address these concerns and work towards securing a sustainable and prosperous future for Australian farmers.] ----- https://lnkd.in/ekHxEXiH

CEO Delta Harvest, Farmer, Climate Activist, Presidential Leadership Scholar, @farmherhallie on socials
As a farmer, I'm concerned about the impact of commercial interest rates on operating lines of credit and farm equipment. While I understand the Federal Reserve's goal of slowing down spending, I must borrow the same amount each year regardless of interest rates. In fact, due to inflation, I must borrow more. The cost of equipment repairs and maintenance, labor, fertilizers, pesticides, seed, and fuel are all up significantly. And let's not forget about interest rates on financing farm equipment. As farmers, we don't buy new equipment for fun - it's a necessity for planting, maintaining, harvesting, storing, and transporting crops. Due to the nature of commodity pricing, we can't pass on the increased cost to the customer. I’m not an economist, but farmers are in a tough situation and that needs addressing. #farming #interestrates #agriculture 🚜 video quote by poet, Will Carleton (1845-1912)

The Australian Agricultural Company posted a full-year net loss of $94.6 million, which is a stark contrast from reporting a profit of $4.6 million the previous year, after the company said it was a “challenging” year. The Agricultural Company said weaker cattle prices were to blame which resulted in a downward unrealised mark-to-market fair value adjustment to the herd of $149.4 million. But sales revenue did lift 7 per cent to $336.1 million. CEO David Harris said the company’s ability to increase sales volumes whilst experiencing price resilience shows the strength of its supply chain and the value associated with its branded beef. #AustralianAgriculture #Agribusiness #CattlePrices #Farming #AgriculturalCompany #FinancialResults #SupplyChain #BrandedBeef #ProfitLoss #MarkToMarket #SalesRevenue #DavidHarris #ChallengingYear #StockMarket #LivestockIndustry #EconomicImpact #BusinessNews #CorporateFinance #MarketTrends #AustralianEconomy

Persistent loadshedding continues to pose a significant threat to South Africa’s food supply chain and agricultural production. Unforeseen power cuts affect irrigation schedules, heating, fruit and wine processing, milling, bakeries, abattoirs, cold chain logistic and exports. Extreme bouts of rotational power cuts and sporadic changes to the loadshedding stages, have in certain instances resulted in farms and processors having to discard their produce, with farmers reporting losses of between 30% to 50%. The frustration within the agricultural sector is driving farmers and agri -processors to find new solutions to mitigate their losses and manage their risk. https://lnkd.in/dNxPcZEh
