The ROLIAC consortium is comprised of 10 highly qualified project partners from six countries, all dedicated to pushing the boundaries of innovation within additive manufacturing for defence. These partners bring diverse backgrounds and perspectives to the table, representing leading institutions and companies known for their innovative research and development efforts. In the coming time, we will be posting short introduction videos about the consortium partners. The first one on the scene is Danish Technological Institute who is also the project coordinator of ROLIAC. 𝗜𝘀 𝗕𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝗥𝗲𝗽𝗮𝗶𝗿𝗮𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗡𝗲𝘅𝘁 𝗢𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗔𝗴𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗮? One of the topics that came up at last week’s GERPISA - Le Réseau International de L'Automobile Global Automotive Conference in Bordeaux, France was battery repairability. Some battery makers, including the European battery consortium, ACC - Automotive Cells Company, are looking at how to repair batteries, something that no one is talking about. We heard from Philippe Biensan, Chief Technology Officer at ACC, who talked about how they are researching attaching the individual battery cells without glue, so that they can be tested and replaced. This process could be a game changer in battery life. #Battery repair may play a part in future US and EU right to repair laws, though no current laws deal with this issue. Excited to share my experience from the 20th World Conference on Non-destructive Testing in Incheon, South Korea! I had the honor of presenting our latest research on "Notch-based Strategy for Improving Failure Mode Differentiation in CFRP Specimens Using Acoustic Emission Signals." In our study, we introduced a novel method to distinguish failure modes in CFRP through acoustic emission signals. We conducted tensile tests using cross-ply prepreg specimens, recorded acoustic signals with four piezo Sensors from Vallen Systeme, and applied a semi-circular notch to half of the specimens to reduce stress concentration in the router 90° layers. Our findings indicate that notched specimens can enhance the contrast and clarity in failure mode differentiation. This advancement could significantly improve the reliability of composite material assessments. Special thanks to my colleagues Harutyun Yagdjian, Simon Rommelfanger and Martin Gurka for their invaluable contributions to this research. Together, we continue to push the boundaries of material science at the Leibniz-Institute for Composite Materials.
