How To Turn Setbacks Into a Thriving Remote Career! Earlier this year, while working as an online customer service rep, my days started before sunrise. I’d leave home at 6 AM to beat the traffic, get to work by 8 AM, and return by 7 PM, too drained to do anything for myself. I felt stuck. I remember thinking, This can’t be my lifestyle. It’s not my purpose. One evening, stuck in traffic coming from Wuse 2 to Lugbe , I realized, This isn’t the life I want. I wanted freedom, balance, and a career aligned with my goals and faith. I knew I had to make a change. Even without a clear backup plan, I decided to transition to a remote career. It wasn’t easy—I had no idea where to start. But challenges like these teach us resilience. I prayed, leaned on my faith, and sought out platforms like ALX to upskill and opened doors to a virtual career. Today, I’m a thriving Virtual Assistant, helping businesses streamline operations and achieve success remotely. If you’re in a tough spot, know that challenges can be stepping stones. Stay resilient, keep learning, and trust your journey. ———————————————————— Are you ready to elevate your business with a proactive, detail-oriented Virtual Assistant? I graduated with Latin honors but ended up working as a Virtual Assistant. A lot of people like to belittle remote work, saying things like, “Such a waste of your education, spending years in an institution and not even utilizing your course.” What they don’t realize is that working remotely is actually a challenge in itself. It’s about finding ways to apply everything we learned in college in a completely different, often international, setting. There’s a lot of judgment and jokes when people hear we’re Virtual Assistants, but they don’t know the whole story—the way we started, how we adjust to graveyard shifts, or how competitive it is to find jobs online these days. Looking back, I’ve learned that success doesn’t always follow a straight path. It’s not about what others think of your career—it’s about how we adapt, grow, and use the skills we’ve built in ways we never expected. Working remotely has taught me to be flexible, resourceful, and disciplined—things that might not always be obvious but are so important in today’s world.

I would never accept a remote job before asking these 8 questions first. Why? Because if you value a strong async culture, it's not a good idea to join a remote company that does NOT value async... then try to convince them to value it: 1/ "Tell me about how your team collaborates?" 2/ "What does onboarding look like?" • How are new hires acclimated? • How are new hires introduced to other team members? • What channels are there to meet the rest of the company? 3/ "What is your Slack/chat response policy?" • What about on weekends? • Are there clear rules? • Where are these rules communicated? 4/ "What's been the biggest cultural challenge the company faced this year?" 5/ "What is the average number of PTO days your team takes?" 6/ "How often did you meet with the team in person?" • For how long? • Where did you meet? • Was it worth it? Why or why not? 7/ "Is there a budget for off-sites?" • When was the last one? • Tell me about it. 8/ "How does your company prioritize work/life boundaries?" • How does the company destigmatize mental health care? What did I miss? 👇 (𝘕𝘰𝘵𝘦: 𝘐 𝘶𝘴𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘴𝘦 𝘲𝘶𝘦𝘴𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘴 𝘪𝘯 𝘪𝘯𝘧𝘰𝘳𝘮𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘢𝘭 𝘪𝘯𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘷𝘪𝘦𝘸𝘴 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘸𝘩𝘦𝘯 𝘴𝘱𝘦𝘢𝘬𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘵𝘰 𝘱𝘦𝘰𝘱𝘭𝘦 𝘢𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘱𝘢𝘯𝘺, 𝘕𝘖𝘛 𝘥𝘶𝘳𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘪𝘯𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘷𝘪𝘦𝘸 𝘱𝘳𝘰𝘤𝘦𝘴𝘴.) --- My name is Chris Ming. I still remember the day I made the switch to remote work. I was excited to ditch the commute and work in my pajamas, but I quickly realized that something was missing. Without the watercooler chats and spontaneous meetings, I felt disconnected from my colleagues and industry peers. Looking back, I wish I knew how crucial it was to build a strong online presence and network. It's easy to get lost in the virtual world, but with a little intentionality, you can stay connected and thrive. For me, it started with revamping my LinkedIn profile. I made sure my skills and experience were up-to-date, and I even added a few personal touches to help me stand out. Then, I started joining online communities related to my field - it's amazing how many groups are out there, and how willing people are to share their expertise! Next, I began attending virtual events and conferences. At first, it felt weird to watch a webinar in my living room, but I quickly got used to it. And the best part? I could connect with people from all over the world, without leaving my house. But the most important thing I've learned is the power of reaching out to people directly. I used to be intimidated by the idea of sending a cold message to someone I admired, but I've found that people are more willing to chat than you think! I've had some amazing conversations and even landed a few opportunities through these connections. If you're just starting out in remote work, I encourage you to prioritize building your online presence and network. It's not always easy, but it's worth it. Trust me, I've been there. Send a message to join our 30 day boot-camp, where you will have access to legit job listings, resume templates, and coaching sessions. You do not want to miss this opportunity. Send “interested” to us to start the process. Get a remote job this September. #getaremotejob #30daysbootcamp #remotejobcommunities #careergoals

🌟 Inspiring Growth Through Remote Opportunities 🌟 Today, I want to reflect on a pivotal moment in my career that redefined my professional journey and inspired me to embrace growth in unexpected ways. Several years ago, I faced a challenge many professionals encounter—wanting to grow beyond the confines of my immediate environment. As someone passionate about organization, efficiency, and making a tangible impact, I realized that traditional opportunities might not fully align with my aspirations. That realization pushed me to explore the world of remote work. Taking the first step was anything but easy. When I began my journey as an Administrative Virtual Assistant and Data Entry Expert on platforms like Upwork, I quickly learned that competition was fierce, and trust had to be earned. However, I viewed these challenges not as obstacles but as opportunities to prove my skills and adaptability. With over five years of remote work experience today, I’ve provided exceptional administrative support to clients across various industries, managing tasks such as: Calendar and appointment scheduling Data entry and database management Email management Project coordination Through diligence and dedication, I mastered tools like Microsoft Excel and Zoho, helping clients streamline operations and enhance productivity. These experiences taught me how to excel in fast-paced environments, meet tight deadlines, and communicate effectively with global teams—all while working remotely. One of the most rewarding aspects of this journey has been the opportunity to add value beyond basic administrative functions. Whether creating visually engaging presentations, coordinating virtual meetings, or providing innovative solutions to complex challenges, I’ve been able to help businesses grow while building long-term relationships with clients. Outside my professional engagements, my involvement in leadership roles, such as serving as the Vice Chairman of my Community Development Area, has helped me apply these skills to real-world initiatives. From addressing community security to organizing fundraising for development projects, I’ve learned the importance of collaboration, strategic planning, and execution in driving results. Looking back, stepping into remote work has not only elevated my career but also deepened my commitment to lifelong learning and adaptability. It’s proof that with the right mindset and skills, opportunities truly have no boundaries. To anyone considering remote work or feeling uncertain about exploring new paths, I encourage you to embrace the challenge. Growth often lies on the other side of uncertainty. Let’s continue to inspire one another on this journey. I’d love to hear your thoughts—what has been a defining moment in your career? #Inspiration #Gratitude #100dayschallengewithJO

Hello, Fellow Great Minds My name is Azubuike Goodyne. I'm super excited to share my remote job journey with all of us. It’s been since 2023, I started developing interest in getting the virtual space where one can work from the comfort of there space. I continue to wonder how people do a whole lot online, offering remote services to people and businesses, until I finally choose the VIRTUAL ASSISTANT path. Initially it was a tough one, cos I wasn’t too good with a lot of related tech_ stuff. But seeing a lot of ladies in tech I was determined to get along and be one of these amiable ladies. Long story cut short, I got a certification from ALX as a virtual assistant but became even more confused as to what niche, and some other questions in my heart. Prior to this, I worked as an Administrative Assistant and Customer Service Support for several years with some companies on site. However, I always desired to do more remotely, to be one amongst the leading ladies in this remote space, like you reading this post. Meanwhile, while I was battling with my desires to work remotely and confusions as to how to continue from when ALX stop, Remote Trybe came to my rescue. This is just few weeks into the training and I can already lay my hands on my goals and see myself in my dreams. However, as this training continues, I am eager to learn more, do more with the knowledge apprehended to build a successful career as a Virtual Assistant. Finally if you are seeing this post, it means that there’s so much we can do and win together when we do not give up on our dreams. Let’s connect Let’s help each other win together!

The Power of Like-Minded Connections in Remote Work If there’s one thing I’ve learned so far, it’s this: the people you surround yourself with can make all the difference. In a traditional office, it’s easy to build connections—you’re in the same space, sharing conversations over coffee or lunch. But in remote work, you have to be intentional about building those relationships. Honestly, it’s one of the best decisions you can make as a remote worker. For me, I’ve realized that building a career, especially in a remote space, isn’t something you do alone. Whether it’s bouncing ideas off a fellow VA, learning from a project management pro, or just having someone who gets it, like-minded people keep you grounded and focused on your goals. Right now, I’m working on growing my community here on LinkedIn, connecting with more professionals who inspire me, and learning as much as I can to become even better at what I do as a Virtual Executive Assistant and Project Manager. In the spirit of #SocialSaturday, let’s make today about connections. Who are the people on LinkedIn (or beyond) who’ve inspired you, encouraged you, or simply made your career journey a little brighter? I’ll go first: Shoutout to Eniola Adenuga and Ademola-Adesola Ife. Your support and insights have been invaluable! How has surrounding yourself with the right people helped your career? Let’s celebrate those connections—drop a comment or tag someone who’s made an impact in your journey! #SocialSaturday #CommunityBuilding #ExecutiveAssistant #ProjectManager #LinkedInConnect #TheGraceOludare
