Different, scared, unsure - this is where I started. During Pride Month, I want to celebrate "being at home with myself." It was quite a journey to get here. First, I knew I was different but didn't understand what it was (I was 5). Then, I started to understand but pushed it away. Later, I knew what it was but didn't know how to talk about it. Then I tried to talk about it, but it was too scary. Eventually, it wasn't that scary, but I had concerns. Finally, slowly but surely, it became okay to be who I am and to talk about it. I'm sure you understand: We all have parts of ourselves that we need to accept. Maybe you're on that journey of acceptance now. I have only one piece of advice: Be kind to yourself. Getting caught in the cycle of continuous goal chasing is easy, leading to burnout and anxiety as we feel we haven’t accomplished enough. As human beings, we often desire more—yet it’s crucial to recognize and celebrate our current milestones. For instance, when someone becomes a clerk, they may quickly aim to become an assistant, officer, and so on. But how often do we pause to appreciate what we've already achieved? Celebrating our successes is vital because it fosters a positive mindset and boosts motivation. Let’s make it a habit to acknowledge our progress and honour our journeys. Most importantly, she’s a servant leader – she’s always hyper-attentive to the needs of the teams she leads, and digs in to help them get the work done – never afraid to dive deep and help push things forward. 💥But Angela is also a fierce competitor. Think about the affect Michael Jordan had on anyone who played on the same court–he elevated everyone’s game. On Michael’s court, you can't just show up and play–you come and give it your ALL. 👉 Same with Angela – when she commits to anything, it instantly motivates the team and suddenly they find a new gear to complete something that was previously unreachable. Some dates are always special such as today, the date when we launched Silver Talkies Club six years ago in 2018, based on the inputs from attendees of our events. They wanted to meet more often, know their co-participants better and have more fun and engaging opportunities. Hence Silver Talkies Club was born in a time and age when active ageing, loneliness and isolation among older adults were not spoken about or discussed much in our country. I was in fact told by many peers that I was playing in a small niche field. Fast forward to 2024, almost every new player in the senior care space is looking at addressing similar issues with similar models. Did we start too early or did they start too late? I think it is immaterial for as they say that all's well that ends well. What is most heartening for me is to note that in the pic below all the people who became members in 2018 are still members in 2024, with the exception of one member whom we lost a few months ago. WOW! 3 years have come and gone in the blink of an eye. It feels like yesterday I jumped feet first into a role that I really didn’t know what to expect. Sure, I had been on the other end of recruiting calls and really didn’t love that part of the experience, to be honest… But, the pandemic had shifted things for me and I decided why not entertain a conversation... and I am SO grateful I did. What interested me most was my conversations with Kim, Laura, Beth, and Katelynn (among others). What they had shared they loved about their career in recruiting thus far just happened to align with a few core values important to me: ✨Connecting with people✨ ▫️ This was a large reason why I left public accounting in the first place, and something I had lost in my yoga/fitness/retail sales journey during the pandemic, and missed greatly. ✨Helping others✨ ▫️ Coming from an accounting background, this holds a special place for me in an effort to ‘match’ organizations with finance and accounting talent they can retain for years to come. From a candidate perspective, the ability to bring opportunities to the table they may not have even known about or that align with what is most important to them in their life today. ✨Emphasis on a team environment and focusing on long-term relationships (versus short-term gains)✨ ▫️ You win some, you lose some’ – one of my favorite quotes and it never feels good to ‘lose’, but with my background in teaching yoga it is an easy one to lean on when you focus on the big picture, focus on nurturing relationships, and focus on the idea that what you put out into the world will return itself to you in dividends. ▫️So for today - no job postings, no market insights, nothing to share here other than an appreciation for Truity Partners, my team, and to those I have had the good fortune to cross paths with along the way… THANK YOU for entertaining my cold calls, for laughing along with me in my voicemails, for getting honest on what's important to you, for your trust, and for so much more to come.
