Today was a big day for EU-AU health cooperation with the launch of four new initiatives to strengthen health systems and social protection in Africa, including one on #digitalhealth – a concrete result of the work of the D4D Hub: https://lnkd.in/e2xx-kr4
#TeamEurope has launched a new initiative on digital health to support African partners to strengthen healthcare systems and bring the continent a step closer to universal health coverage. As learned during the COVID-19 crisis, the #digitaltransformation can improve healthcare access for vulnerable communities and create more resilient health systems. The initiative will thus increase African partners’ capacity to leverage digital tools to improve health information systems and epidemic surveillance networks, enable health service delivery, and support health financing and health systems governance, among other key actions. This initiative is part of a broader support package mobilised by the European Union and its Member States to strengthen health systems and social protection in Africa. Together with our African partners, we are working to improve pandemic preparedness, health security and equitable access to quality health services. A new fact sheet is out!!!!!!!!!!!!! The iAHO is thrilled to share the recent factsheet on “Sub-National Unit (SNU) Functionality in Africa – Key findings from 18 countries”: https://lnkd.in/ehZNnN7M The factsheet highlights the pivotal role of robust health systems in driving health outcomes across the #African Region. Through comprehensive assessments, districts and countries are equipped with the essential tools for real-time evaluations aligned with Universal Health Coverage(#UHC), health security, and health determinants, all rooted in the Primary Health Care approach(#PHC). Districts play a critical role, with statistics revealing higher capacities in #oversightfunctions (78%) compared to #management (69%) and #healthservices (67%). Together, let's prioritize strengthening these vital capacities to ensure access to essential services for all communities. The keys things I have learned about Joel Kojo Abaka Anaman and Siraaj Adams’ work on integrated and interoperable digital health solutions are that: 1. Africa has some of the best minds in this field. 2. Africa has the best opportunities for implementation. 3. When governments and policy makers are genuinely interested in allowing their citizens to prosper, improve their quality of life by fostering access to healthcare and developing efficient and transparent systems, they will allow their citizens and experts to develop home grown solutions, guide them, promote them and partner with them to implement for the overall betterment of their country and citizens. 4. When quality citizens and professionals collide with quality policymakers, progress and development are inevitable. Great work Siraaj Adams and Joel Kojo Abaka Anaman and much respect to policymakers in your governments for allowing you the space and working with you. #fip2024
