Did you know that #expats are more likely to experience #burnout than the local workforce in a country? Did you also know they are more likely to experience #stress, feel helpless and detached/alone? Beyond what looks like the glitz and glamour of the jetsetting life, these are some of the many unspoken secrets of the expat experience. And while they may be unspoken, they do lead to real world consequences - at work, failed expatriations with loss on ROI and at home, unhappy individuals and families. Shedding light on this issue and sharing insights on how to mitigate them with the EGN Singapore (Executives' Global Network) EGN Malaysia (Executives' Global Network) EGN Indonesia (Executives' Global Network), we had an engaged audience of senior leaders keen to move the needle for themselves and the people they manage. Thank you Binu Balan and B.Connected for making this outstanding session happen. Thank you Dona Amelia for having us. And kudos Simon J. Littlewood ➤ Veteran Coach, Advisor for your facilitation.

7 months ago I started a new chapter in Asia 🚀 🇸🇬 Leaving everything behind and moving alone to a new country in the other side of the world was not an easy decision to make. I remember when I was on the 13h flight to Singapore, so many fears and doubts popped up: 😱 "What if I don’t like my new country and/or job?" 😱 "What if I’m feeling homesick?" 😱 "What if I don’t make friends?" 😱 "What if I fail? Deep breathing. It comes as no surprise: stepping out the comfort zone and starting (almost) everything from scratch can feel extremely overwhelming and daunting. But it’s a great opportunity for growth 🌱 Over the past few months, I have pushed my boundaries and had amazing adventures that developed me as a person and allowed me to understand myself even more: ✅ Discovering a new work environment ✅ Exploring new places ✅ Embracing diverse cultures ✅ Building new habits and taking on new challenges ✅ Joining clubs and trying out new sports, including Muay Thai and dragon boat ✅ Making new connections “The human spirit is like an elastic band. The more you stretch, the greater your capacity.” – Bidemi Mark-Mordi “If you do not push the boundaries, you will never know where they are.” – T. S. Eliot “To infinity and beyond” - Buzz Lightyear #personaldevelopment #careerdevelopment #growth #levelup ✨

Thank you EGN Singapore (Executives' Global Network) for having Expat Advising sharing our stories and some facts about the expat industry as a whole, and also related to the individual expat. What we do is as Dona Amelia rightfully describes ➡ niche. We provide expatriate success by identifying and mitigating the known (but unspoken) failure points, and we do it well. In raising awareness about the reasons for potential failure, I raise my voice and tell my story, and I will continue to do so. I won´t stop until it becomes common knowledge amongst expats and in the industry that these potential challenges are part of expat life and something that can be solved. My ultimate goal is to see expatriations succeed. Every time. The expat life offers tremendous benefits for companies, individuals, host countries, and when it comes to cultural acceptance and respect. It is a win-win-win-win 🥇 and that´s what I want in Expat Advising. Binu Balan and Simon J. Littlewood ➤ Veteran Coach, Advisor Thank you for your time and effort to make this happen 🙏 Want to hear more or have me come and share my story - just reach out. #expatlife #expatmanagement #expatriation #relocation #globaltalent

Facts:
ADVICE TO WESTERNERS WORKING IN THAILAND I have worked with many Westerners in my career, both in Thailand and overseas. Living in a global village, the similarities between our cultures are now greater than the differences. But there is one secret to thriving here and enjoying your time while doing it. Stay perky and polite. People in the West can shout at each other and forget about it in minutes. We Thais do things differently on the whole. We confront our problems with a smile and a positive attitude. Especially in business, you should never show negativity. Thailand is called the Land of Smiles for good reason. Be a grinner and become a winner.

8 years ago I bought a 1-way ticket to Bangkok and it changed my life. I was only supposed to stay 8 months for an exchange program. But ended up never leaving. When I first got there, I thought to myself: “Wow, it’s a lot…” ↳ the humidity levels ↳ the number of bikes on the road ↳ the amount of people, everywhere at all time Definitely things I wasn’t used to as a European from a small coastal city. It’s now been 8 years and I couldn’t be happier. Simply because after the first few weeks (& then years that followed) I realized that: Thailand has some of the kindest and most welcoming people I had ever met ↳ makes life here so enjoyable. Bangkok is a big business hub as it’s a great alternative to HK & SG ↳ gives you plenty of opportunities. Thailand has some of the best food in the world at good prices ↳ makes a foodie like myself very happy. Bangkok has amazing infrastructure, for all activities ↳ keeps a hyperactive like myself always busy. + I met some of the most amazing people I've met in my life. Very happy and grateful for all the opportunities this amazing place has given me. Excited to see what the future holds and how we’ll grow Reachly above & beyond. Not trying to be too inspirational but if I were, I’d say: → Try things, dare to fail, and take the leap because "Great things await ahead". PS: I think that there aren’t many cities out there in the world that offer the same quality of life for price ratio, what’s your thoughts?

🌟 Malaysia: The Fifth Happiest Country in the World 🌟 According to the Global Mind Project's "Mental State of the World" report, conducted by the American nonprofit neuroscience research organisation, Sapien Labs, Malaysia has been ranked as the fifth happiest country in the world. The report, which surveyed over 400,000 people from 71 countries, highlights Malaysia's unique balance of cultural richness, diversity, and a deep sense of community that fosters happiness and well-being. 🎉 Malaysia’s inclusive environment, where English is widely spoken and the cost of living remains affordable, makes it an ideal destination for expats and retirees alike. With the Malaysia My Second Home (MM2H) program, it has never been easier to experience the joy and tranquillity this country has to offer. 🏝️🏡 As Malaysia continues to shine globally, this ranking is a testament to its commitment to unity, harmony, and the happiness of its people. Let’s keep celebrating everything that makes Malaysia such a wonderful place to live, work, and thrive! ✨ Source: New Straits Times, Sapien Labs #Happiness #Malaysia #MentalStateOfTheWorld #Community #Diversity #LifeInMalaysia #ExpatLife #MM2H #RetirementDestination

Being seated among Malaysia's top achievers from various industries was truly overwhelming and humbling! 🌟 I remember that feeling of being a small person among industry giants, but I also told myself that every big change starts with small steps. It was an experience that inspired me to strive even harder and achieve more in contributing to positive change in the medical industry. It was also a gentle reminder to never underestimate the power of my contributions. Together, we can make a difference! 💪🩺 #TopAchieversMalaysia #MedicalIndustry #MakingADifference
