She received her MFA in Visual Design with a concentration in Gender Studies from the University of Notre Dame. Her design experience has developed in tandem with pursuits in an advertising agency. As an Associate Creative Director at Ogilvy, she received a strong foundation in utilizing design thinking techniques to generate creative and culturally relevant design solutions. Her learnings in the advertising industry drive her design research and motivate her to pursue projects that give under-represented users and communities a voice. ▶️ TONY JONES Tony Jones is a lecturer at the School of Continuing and Professional Studies at the Pratt Institute. Tony enables creatives to use Generative AI throughout the design process, from brief to delivery. He also teaches this topic to agencies, brands and individuals at the Creative AI Academy, which he Co-Founded with Dom Heinrich. I recently had the pleasure of attending a class with the co-founder and principal designer Ekta Manchanda of Everything.Design (https://lnkd.in/dmzEWdqj). One of the most interesting things I learned was about the narrative of design. I was particularly interested in learning about the different ways that designers can create narratives. Some designers use storytelling, while others use symbolism or metaphor. Some nuggets of my recent talk with 3rd & 4th year students MIT-WPU on ‘Brands in the Digital World.’ 1. Brands are getting lost in the visual clutter and want to find an endearing way to connect with their audiences. 2. They are adopting storytelling to build an emotional connection and cut through the visual clutter. 3. Narratives go beyond features and benefits that brands provide through their product. 4. Building intuitive interfaces is hygiene, if you want to build a digital first brand. 5. A designers role will be mainly to facilitate the conception of a brand, while AI will help do the heavy lifting of creation. For a week I’ve been doing some research on skills to excel in the design industry. It’s interesting to see how things are rapidly changing, and how people stay updated. Nowadays AI is on everyone’s lips. Even though hard skills are still important when it comes to design it seems like the need for soft skills will increase. The definition of what a designer does is becoming a blur as new roles keep appearing. Some might say that job titles like Art Director is a dying title, while others believe that the importance of art direction and the ability to take ownership of a project that’s not only about design will be an equally important skill to have in the future. Alongside strategic thinking on how to implement AI, especially now that no-code tools makes it easier to design. Staying curious and being openminded to learning new skills will be important for the future!

Last week, I gave my lecture “Mastering the Art of Midjourney Prompts: Strategies for Better Writing” to the dedicated students of the Master of Science in Communication Studies program at the Universiteit Gent I delved into the fascinating realm of human-AI collaboration and shed my light on how I integrate these technologies into my daily practice. As designers we should harness the power of tools like Midjourney to enhance efficiency, quality, productivity, and creativity in the design workflow. But I also emphasized that as powerful as Generative AI is, it won’t replace the human touch of brand, product, and graphic designers. It’s a tool for a job, not a replacement for the creator. Two of five essential points to remember 👇🏻 Co-create & Iterate: Remember that AI's output is not the final destination. It doesn't understand your brand identity or the context. Continue the creative journey where the machine leaves off. Augment Your Trade: Achieving outstanding results with AI still depends on your taste and your deep understanding of design and prompt construction. Master your craft, whether it's animation, illustration, composition, or any other form of artistic expression. Embrace the possibilities that AI offers while celebrating the enduring value of human creativity in our evolving digital landscape. 🙏🏼

This article covers the first wave of AI for learning, where in one ChatGPT prompt educators can specify a subject, grade level, learning objects, activities, preferred resources, and assessment methods and get a draft lesson plan in less than a minute. It gets better! AI engineers have already built applications that allow adjustments to easily made, relevant assets provided, and references to state or common core standards to be attached to the plan, as required by some states (such as NJ and WA). Ever wondered how AI is transforming the world of Creative design education? Recently, I had the amazing opportunity to conduct a 3-hour workshop for design with AI for JS Institute of Design, diving deep into the world of AI-powered design tools. It was incredible to see their eyes light up as they explored the potential of these technologies! ✨ In this workshop : I asked them to sketch different Emotions ‘Nava-Rasas’ through lines or patterns or any form of their perspective on a paper. Later they gave the same prompt to different tools like #adobefirefly #Gemini, to compare results, made mood boards and a storyboard and finally compared their original sketched ideas so that they understand the creative power of their Brian vs AI output. It is the context and the story behind your concept which prevails over your ability to deliver through AI. Students experimented with the tools, creating unique designs and understanding how AI can enhance their workflow, using #adobe sensei for image generation editing, logo design, and colour palette creation. While AI is powerful, it's crucial to understand its limitations and use it responsibly alongside human expertise. The feedback was overwhelmingly positive, with students appreciating the hands-on approach and the insights into the future of design. Key takeaways: Learning about AI is essential for any aspiring designer in today's digital landscape.
