Indeed, it is another milestone! 👏 And again another great step we are doing in our hydrogen strategy.👍 Today, together with Linde we opened our first public hydrogen station for liquid #hydrogen with our new developed sLH2 technology in Wörth, near our factory in South Germany. It is the first of its kind: 👉easy like Diesel: just taking the dispenser 👉Fast like Diesel: with 400 kg/h, meaning less than 15 min for more than 1,000 km range 👉just a few space needed like Diesel: 50m2 for the entire station, thats it. With that technology we come very close to the high usability and flexibility we know from today‘s road freight transport and we still need for the future. The main difference: zero emission! Plug Power has developed a new hydrogen-powered truck An innovative Class 6 hydrogen-powered fuel cell truck, which is suitable for middle-mile, medium-duty deliveries, has been developed by Plug Power. Plug Power’s truck is able to travel up to 500 miles, through the use of an electric propulsion system, which has been proven to be successful within the industry. The electric propulsion system is efficiently powered by Plug’s ProGen fuel cell technology. It’s ability to travel up to 500 miles, will be extremely important for middle-mile deliveries and another advantage, is that the vehicle does not need a commercial driver’s license (CDL) for operation. This makes the vehicle better for the environment and it makes it more accessible for a wider variety of drivers. At the moment, the truck is fully developed and is in its final integration and testing phase. The plan for the summer of 2024 is for the operational pilots to commence and this will be done through a collaboration with Plug’s key market leader logistic customers. Performing these tests and completing the final phase will provide the company with valuable real-world data and feedback and will therefore provide them with the opportunity for future improvements and other developments. In addition to solar, wind, and nuclear energy, clean hydrogen is another viable option, as the world races to reach net zero emissions. Amid surging demand for electricity due in part to a rise in electric vehicles (EVs), there is no single clean energy source that will be adequate to meet the growing demand for electricity. This is why we need to scale all possible clean energy sources including clean hydrogen. Falling back on fossil fuels such as natural gas to meet the high demand for electricity is not a viable option due to the associated CO2 emissions. Hydrogen has the highest energy density of all the energy sources that are currently available and can store the most energy for a given amount of mass. It can be made clean by sequestering the CO2 emissions arising during production and storing them underground or re-utilizing them for other purposes. We are beginning to see vehicles powered by clean hydrogen being produced, which is a very promising development. When produced at scale, hydrogen-powered vehicles will likely use a lot less electricity than EVs and be more cost effective too, while keeping the world on track to reach net zero emissions.
