Being an occupational hygienist is awesome. We use our science for good. We get to make things that are invisible, visible. So what is an occupational hygienist actually do? We help workers to know what's safe and unsafe look like and how to protect themselves. As an occupational hygienist, I apply science to make a difference and change the way people. Think about their workplace. It might be Physiology, it might be anatomy. It is definitely chemistry and we make it practical. I get to show the microscopic, the imperceptible. All of that becomes alive and I can quantify it, I can measure it, and I can tell you how to stay safer because of that. I love seeing the change in someone's eye when they understand that everything that we do is for them personally. It's one of the only STEM careers. Where you'll actually get out and about. Where have I been? I've been on lots of planes and I've been on lots of helicopters. I've worked in the UK, I've worked in Germany and I've worked in the Netherlands. I've been at the top of glaciers and on the most tropical, beautiful islands. I've worked on the East Coast of Australia, over in Brisbane and Tasmania in South Africa. I've worked a lot in the Australian Outback. I'm about to go to Switzerland. I've worked in mining, in surface operations and underground port operations. I've worked across rail operations. Others have worked in oil and gas, construction, demolition, forestry, Air Force, Navy, all there to help workers stay safer. If you're considering a career in STEM, occupational hygiene should be at the top of your list. This profession is a lot of fun, come join us. Aih.org dot AU.

Thanks for the clarification. Today, we had Dr. Mellany Murgor and Khalid Awadh Salim BSc. Eng., CertIOSH, from DOSH, providing comprehensive insights into occupational medicine and the requirements for becoming an occupational health physician. Notably, only medical officers can undergo training to be accredited DHPs. They can focus on occupational safety and health or pursue a postgraduate degree in occupational health. It's important to mention that DOSH doesn't accredit health institutions; however, these institutions can collaborate with accredited DHPs to administer the occupational medicine program.

Learn about the Register of Occupational Hygiene Professionals in our latest blog 👇
The British Occupational Hygiene Society (BOHS) has launched the Register of Occupational Hygiene Professionals, accredited by the Professional Standards Authority for Health and Social Care, the UK’s regulator of registered health professionals.
The register is administered by the BOHS Faculty of Occupational Hygiene (FOH), the professional standards body for the British Occupational Hygiene Profession, and allows you to check an individual’s level of expertise.
This serves as a clear indicator to employers, service users, and the public that practitioners are committed to maintaining robust professional and ethical standards and offers confidence to stakeholders that they can trust these accredited practitioners who have voluntarily committed to high-quality standards and ethical conduct.
