#Topics As Debate Looms, Trump Says He Delivered a Speech Produced by AI, Says Speechwriters Are Doomed [ad_1] "He goes, click, click, click, and like 15 seconds later, he shows me my speech, written so beautifully."Only the Best AIsFormer president Donald Trump, who famously likes to have his assistant print out the news for him and doesn't use a computer, has seemingly discovered ChatGPT — which may not bode well for Thursday's presidential debate.During an interview with crypto scammer and racist YouTuber Logan Paul earlier this month, Trump said that he had a "speech rewritten by AI.""One of the top people, he said, ‘Oh, you're going to make a speech?’ ‘Yeah.’ He goes, click, click, click, and like 15 seconds later, he shows me my speech, written so beautifully," he added. "I said, 'I'm going to use this sucker.'"Trump also argued that the industry made up of "these wonderful speechwriters" will soon be "gone."Of course, it's possible that a hallucination-filled and dubiously sourced speech generated by an AI actually would mark a significant improvement over Trump's infamously incoherent ramblings. Trump has historically struggled to form full sentences during his rallies, let alone tell the truth. In other words, Trump's debate against president Joe Biden on CNN lat...

Deepfake was one of the most searched words in 2023, according to Merriam-Webster yesterday. That's an encouraging sign, imho. Deepfakes are going to be a tremendous issue in the 2024 elections. I remember in 2020 when a right-wing disinformation group ran false ads in Ohio about Trump being endorsed by Pope Francis. The 2024 version of that will be a deepfake video of Pope Francis giving Trump a hug. I imagine him wearing a puffy jacket... if it matters. Here's the deal: ↳ AI deepfakes will be used to confuse voters. ↳ AI deepfakes will be used to distract the media. ↳ AI deepfakes will be used to weaken our democracy. I hope the social media companies crack down on deepfakes and invest in the tools (tech + humans) to combat deepfakes, but I'm not especially encouraged given their history. IMHO, the only real answer to this challenge is more education, from the media itself but also directly by our elected leaders, our campaigns, and organizations. We need to educate our supporters and our voters and give them the tools to be much more discerning about what they’re consuming online. I hope every campaign and electoral organization is thinking about how best to combat this challenge heading into a presidential election year. P.S. A reminder — here are my 7 tips for spotting deepfakes on social media: 1. Look for unusual eye movements 2. Check for color & lighting inconsistencies 3. Listen for mismatched audio quality 4. Observe odd body movements 5. Track unnatural facial expressions 6. Ask if the background noise matches 7. Double-check the video source

🤖 This is #AI #Fake or #Real awareness series posting #8. The previous ones can be seen here - https://lnkd.in/eMtfsiWh ✅ Follow me for the latest AI-related news and analysis. https://lnkd.in/eESnAbFm 📢 This time there is no fake or real test. They are all fakes weaponized in a real political situation. Showcasing the doomsday already started! A lot of you are of still the opinion that deepfakes can't be weaponized for political purposes. Here are real-life examples, you be the judge. 🏛️ With the election cycle coming up, a lot of fake news and content is starting to come out already that might have a real impact on electing the true leaders! 💯 Seek the truth!!! Get to the source. Find the provenance, and question the authenticity. *DON'T JUST BLINDLY BELIEVE EVERYTHING YOU SEE ON THE INTERNET!!!* 💥 Case 1: Deepfake ads against Paul Vallas. In the Chicago mayor race, the lost candidate, Paul Vallas, claimed that his opponent, who was also a Democrat, used deepfakes to attack days before the election causing him to lose the election. In the runoff, after leading the race for many months by double digits, Vallas lost the race by 4 points. He blames the AI-created deepfake ads run by his opponent as the cause. He claimed, "In some countries, they do political assassination, here (in the USA) we do character assassination." This was by a Democrat who claimed his opponent was too far right, and conservative, claiming "Chicago cannot afford Republicans like Paul Vallas." 💥 Case 2: Biden fake calling democrats Per #NewHampshire Attorney General, an Arlington, Texas-based company, Life Corporation, called 20,000 NH voters urging Democrats not to vote in the state's primary in Biden's voice. They used a fake audio creation AI tool to create this realistic Biden speech, and the company that created the tool (which I don't want to name here) distanced itself from this campaign and said they are “dedicated to preventing the misuse of audio AI tools” and that it takes appropriate action in response to reports by authorities. The calls were made ahead of New Hampshire’s presidential primary in January, urging New Hampshire voters not to vote in the contest and instead “save” their vote for the November election. The audio can be seen on the second link below. It does sound so real. While this campaign may not have any direct impact on the NH primaries, it is just an indication of what is to come in the general elections. The worst part, all of these can be created in a matter of minutes using AI tools! 🔗 Link to the sources below. ***I welcome a healthy debate on this topic of deepfakes in political scenarios and how we can mitigate this as a society. Please DON'T make this political and/or leave nasty comments. I will delete the comment and BLOCK you. Be civil. *** 📸 Image credit: All original images to owners. As my readers know, I have spoken globally and written a lot about AI and Gen AI over the past year or so. I found this short online post in the New York Times today and believe it is very important. Unlike the EU where a strict set of rules and regulations have been passed reigning in AI and Gen AI, it appears we are taking a completely different tact in the United States. While so this far appears to be focused on social media, will the same sentiment be applied in the future to the regulation and legislation related to AI and Gen AI? Only time will tell. The text below is © New York Times 2024 and appeared online yesterday, February 26, 2024. Justices seemed open to challenges to social media laws. “During several hours of arguments today, the Supreme Court appeared skeptical of laws in Florida and Texas that ban major social media companies from making editorial judgments about which messages to allow. The justices seemed to align more closely with the social media companies, which accused the laws of violating the First Amendment. The court’s decision, which is expected in June, will almost certainly be its most important statement on the scope of free speech in the internet era. A ruling in favor of the states would expose users to a greater variety of viewpoints but would almost certainly amplify the ugliest aspects of the digital age, including hate speech and disinformation. A ruling in favor of the social media platforms seemed more likely, though the justices seemed poised to return the cases to the lower courts to answer questions about how other websites — like Gmail, Venmo and Uber — should be allowed to moderate users’ speech. Supporters of the laws said that they were an attempt to combat any Silicon Valley censorship of conservative views, prompted in part by the decisions of some platforms to bar Donald Trump after the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the Capitol.”

I'm increasingly less worried about AI-fueled disinformation & deepfakes from American politicians & more worried about foreign actors (Russia, China, etc...) using AI to undermine our democracy altogether. I can just imagine the chaos anti-democratic actors have planned heading into November and post-election. If you think 2016 & 2020 was bad, just wait. It's a big part of the reason Meta decided to downgrade all political content yet again. Honestly, it's hard to blame them. An actor who fundamentally doesn't care about our democracy & is just trying to sow civil unrest (and yes, this includes Donald Trump & his closest allies) is more dangerous than a run-of-the-mill bad-faith actor. Let’s not forget that Russia has been caught playing both sides multiple times organizing protests & counter-protests on social media on culture war issues over the years. Now, imagine the 2024 version of that — right-wing sites & social media overrun with fake videos of ballots spilling out of a box from a swing state Trump narrowly lost. Foreign actors using AI & social media to organize protests & counter-protests outside the homes of election officials who are just trying to do their job. Not great! We have to be prepared to leverage AI to help us win elections & find ways to combat the ways this technology will be used to attack our democracy & disrupt our society heading into November. That includes arming the public with the tools they need to understand the ways this technology is going to be used against them & making sure we have clear sources of authority to point people to. Sitting on the sidelines when it comes to AI is not an option here. Especially given how close this election is going to be for the White House & Congress (not to mention countless local elections where AI misuse will fly under the radar.) P.S. This issue is even more challenging in non-English speaking countries where Big Tech companies have invested significantly fewer resources to combat AI disinformation. As much as the media has covered the obvious misuses (deepfakes, for example) in the U.S., I'm not sure anybody is prepared for the actors we may see in other countries, especially for America's allies in Europe & around the world.

**Prediction Alert! 🔮** On Sunday, former President Donald Trump posted a collection of memes on Truth Social that make it seem like he's gearing up for a comeback. Here's my take on the situation: Trump's move is a clear attempt to rebrand himself and create a new narrative amidst the ongoing investigations and scrutiny. By leveraging memes, he's trying to appeal to his core supporters and generate buzz around his platform. **What's next?** * I predict we'll see more of this type of content from Trump in the coming weeks, as he tries to stay relevant and maintain his cult-like following. * It's likely that this strategy will resonate with his loyal base, but may not have a significant impact on the wider political landscape. * This move also raises questions about the role of memes in politics and the potential for them to shape public opinion. **Stay tuned for more insights! 👀** Subscribe to my AI Newsletter for the latest on AI, technology, and politics: [AI Newsletter](https://lnkd.in/gRgPMgKc) Stay ahead of the curve and subscribe to my AI newsletter for more insights on AI in various industries.

🤮 I do #not want this. Nor do I wish to receive emails from people written by Gemini AI. If you want to communicate with me: do so in your own words. ... and yes: I see the irony. Here am I busily building an AI that emails you every morning with the news you care about... and I'm railing against an AI plugin for Gmail which ostensibly does the same thing. But it's not the same. Charlie • Your personal journalist is very clearly an AI. It has a very obvious bright pink cartoon face. It's not purporting to convey the time and effort of a human being. It's not pretending to be anything that it's not. We're rolling into probably the most pivotal year in human existence, with 4 billion people voting, not least in the US Presidential Election and we're already awash with fake news, disinformation and misappropriation of truth. Our own politicians already lie, mislead and disseminate misdirection. The more we all take up these "assistive AI" tools, the more we blur the lines between what's real and what's not. This is not just about what you've read from other people. This becomes about what you've said to other people. Because you and I both know that after the first few times ... you're not going to read, in detail, what Gemini has written for you. The whole point is that it's here to save you time. Allow Gemini to write your emails for you - to convey your intent - and you quickly relinquish your agency, your identity and your right to defend your own position in life. Then what's the point. Why even come into work in the first place. Don't send me emails written by Gemini. I don't want a relationship with Google's interpretation of what you #should be thinking. I'd rather we just stopped speaking. And for your own sense of self worth: Turn it off. Turn off your predictive text. Say less if you're short of time ... but make them your words, from your mind, concocted because it's something you genuinely think and feel. Otherwise - quite seriously - what the hell is the point of communicating in the first place. 🤮
