National Diversity & Inclusion Manager with 20 years experience across Human Resources and Learning & Development
Today 23 June, marks International Women in Engineering Day which began in the United Kingdom in 2014 to celebrate women in Industry. It play's vital role in encouraging more young women and girls to take up exciting engineering careers. *Currently women make up only 16% of engineers and only 13% of the Australian engineering workforce. This year’s theme, Enhanced by Engineering, highlights women engineers who have enhanced people’s everyday lives and are helping to build towards a brighter future. We celebrate our UGL women engineers and recognise their remarkable contributions across our diverse projects in the work they do every day 🎉🙌 As part of our celebrations, we would like to spotlight some of the remarkable female engineers at UGL. 👏 You've likely heard of the phrase "You can't be what you can't see". Take a moment to see some of our inspiring women engineers and reach out to other women engineers you know! They're engineers who have defied the odds in industry and I am so inspired by their stories. #InspireInclusion, the guiding theme for this year’s #InternationalWomensDay, tasks us to focus on how we can drive greater inclusion for women in industries like Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics where they’re historically underrepresented. When we understand and value women's inclusion — and inspire those around us to do the same — we forge a better world. Through many initiatives across Canada, Thales demonstrates its commitment to fostering inclusion in our workplaces. For example, in partnership with L3 Technologies Canada, Babcock Canada Inc., General Dynamics Mission Systems–Canada and CAE Canada, in 2019 Thales launched the Canadian Industrial Leadership Award, which offers financial support, mentorship & employment opportunities for women in the aerospace, maritime, defence and security industries. In addition, we’re long-term supporters of Women in Defence and Security (WiDS), which recognizes and supports female excellence in Canadian defence. Thales also provides mentorship through Technovation – an entrepreneurship competition meant to inspire young girls pursuing #STEM education. Here’s to making continued, collective efforts to build a more inclusive tomorrow. #IWD2024

As we continue to celebrate National Engineers Week here at CDMG, we wanted to take a moment to highlight women in the field of engineering! According to the Society of Women Engineers, despite the percentage growing, women still make up only 16.7% of the workforce in the architecture and engineering field as of 2023. In light of those statistics, we decided to turn internally and ask our female staff who inspired them to pursue a career in engineering. Join the conversation in the comments section and tell us who inspired you to pursue a career in engineering! #EWee2024 #WelcometotheFuture

Why A ‘Lay Low' DEI Strategy Is Especially Bad Right Now Politicized attacks on diversity, equity, and inclusion have frightened many educational, military, and corporate leaders. Executives don't want their organizations to be targets of unnecessarily polarizing, headline-grabbing schemes to mislead the public about DEI. Some are therefore running scared, renaming, and not calling attention to their DEI initiatives. This strategy isn't what our democracy needs right now.
