SKYDIVING HOMEWORK: Lessons I learned from Dr. Israel Portillo's Physics I Lecture Newton's third law of motion states that for every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction. This fundamental principle of physics implies that forces always occur in pairs; when one body exerts a force on a second body, the second body exerts an equal and opposite force back on the first body. In the context of rock climbing, when a climber falls, the padded floor exerts an upward force that is equal in magnitude and opposite in direction to the downward force of the climber's fall, effectively cushioning the impact. For your skydiving homework, this law is crucial in understanding how the skydiver exerts a force on the air as they fall, and the air exerts an equal and opposite force back on the skydiver, affecting their descent speed and stability.

Civilian employees—who make up most of warfare centers’ technical workforce—must learn these concepts on their own or not at all.” #NAWCADian Matt Cosner—the F/A-18 and EA-18G program’s Science and Technology lead—is reimagining what it's like to be a #USNavy civilian advancing capability for #NavalAviation and our warfighters with no fleet experience. His solution? Gaming. Specifically, wargaming to help non-military professionals speak the same language as the warfighters they support. It wouldn’t be difficult as nearly 40% of Navy civilians are veterans. “Each warfare center could design and host annual wargames centered on one or more of the 11 focus areas in the Naval Science and Technology Strategy.
