Another win for Texas and our industry! Air Liquide commits to investing up to 850 million dollars to build, own and operate four Large Modular Air separation units as well as related infrastructure in the framework of a long-term binding agreement with ExxonMobil for its planned low-carbon hydrogen project in Baytown, TX. The successful execution of these projects will supply a record volume of 9,000 metric tons per day of oxygen and 6,500 metric tons per day of nitrogen to support the production of low-carbon hydrogen. These molecules will also be used to synthesize low-carbon hydrogen into low-carbon ammonia as a source of low-carbon energy for the export market. #hydrogen #lowcarbon Bartech Staffing Lily Schalde https://lnkd.in/gjttuEtH

JERA Co., Inc., Japan’s leading power generator, announced a collaboration with ExxonMobil to explore the development of a low-carbon hydrogen and ammonia production project in the United States. ExxonMobil is currently working on what is anticipated to be the world’s largest low-carbon hydrogen production plant at its Baytown Complex in Texas. With an annual output capacity of approximately 900,000 tonnes of hydrogen and over one million tonnes of ammonia, the project is slated to commence production in 2028. Under the terms of the agreement, JERA Co., Inc. has the option to invest in the project and procure around 500,000 tonnes of low-carbon ammonia annually from the project to meet demand in Japan. This collaboration signifies a significant step towards advancing Japan’s efforts in embracing low-carbon energy solutions, particularly in the hydrogen and ammonia sectors. Read more about the article here: https://lnkd.in/gxP8QBNK As Japan intensifies its focus on achieving carbon neutrality and enhancing energy security, collaborations like these underscore the importance of international cooperation in driving forward sustainable energy initiatives. We are pleased to announce that JERA Co., Inc. and ExxonMobil will be participating as Host Sponsor and Gold Sponsor, respectively, at the Japan Energy Summit & Exhibition. 🚀 Pioneering the Future: ExxonMobil and Air Liquide's Groundbreaking Low-Carbon Hydrogen Project 🌱 ExxonMobil and Air Liquide have joined forces to advance the world's largest low-carbon hydrogen project at ExxonMobil's Baytown, #Texas facility. This collaboration aims to significantly reduce emissions by producing up to 1 billion cubic feet of low-carbon hydrogen per day and capturing over 98% of associated #CO2 emissions. The project, expected to start in 2027-2028, will not only help ExxonMobil cut its own CO2 emissions but also provide low-carbon hydrogen to other industries in the Houston area, supporting their decarbonization efforts. With this initiative, ExxonMobil targets a 30% reduction in Scope 1 and 2 emissions at the Baytown complex by switching from natural gas to #hydrogen as a fuel source. This landmark project highlights the critical role of hydrogen and carbon capture technologies in the global transition to #netzero emissions by 2050. 👏 🔗 https://lnkd.in/edUNYmtJ #Sustainability #HydrogenEconomy #CarbonCapture #EnergyTransition #ExxonMobil #AirLiquide

The company aims to bring the facility on stream in 2025, with the resulting blue hydrogen product to serve ExxonMobil’s (Esso) Rotterdam refinery and additional customers via its hydrogen pipeline network system. According to Air Products, this will be the largest blue hydrogen plant in Europe once operational. As explained, the carbon capture retrofit will capture CO2 from Air Products’ existing hydrogen plant and ExxonMobil’s Rotterdam refinery and the plant will be connected to the Porthos system. The Porthos project is the first large-scale CO2 transport and storage system in the Netherlands which recently reached final investment decision approval. It was designed to transport CO2 captured from industry in the port of Rotterdam to depleted gas fields in the North Sea, approximately 20 kilometers off the coast, where it will be permanently stored at a depth of more than 3 kilometers beneath the seabed.

Pipeline focus: CO2 transport and storage. By Dominic Ellion With safe capture and storage of carbon dioxide (CO2) a prerequisite and enabler for developing blue hydrogen and ammonia from natural gas, it is little wonder that there are numerable projects now in the development phase Air Products recently grabbed the headlines when it announced plans to build, own and operate a carbon capture and CO2 treatment facility at its existing hydrogen production plant in Rotterdam. The carbon capture retrofit will capture CO2 from Air Products’ existing hydrogen plant and ExxonMobil’s Rotterdam refinery. The facility is expected to come on stream in 2026, with blue hydrogen serving ExxonMobil’s (Esso) refinery and additional customers via Air Products’ hydrogen pipeline network system.
