Global Panel: What is Hydrogen’s Role in Transitional Energy? This panel at the Canadian Hydrogen Convention 2024 provided an international perspective on the hydrogen economy and was moderated by Andrew Gillis from Aurora Hydrogen. Grzegorz Gałczyński from the Polish Investment and Trade Agency (PAIH) conveyed that Poland has the largest deposits of coal in the EU. Hydrogen represents an alternative to fossil fuels and serves as a transitional technology that will open paths to the future. Poland is focused on developing the hydrogen carrier industry, which is critical to this sector. Storage is also important as well as pipeline infrastructure for hydrogen transportation, including retrofitting of gas pipelines. These issues offer ideal opportunities to partner either Alberta. Dr. Cristian Călin, Ph.D from Delgaz Grid, Romania shared that hydrogen accounts for only 2% of their energy mix and they do not have enough green hydrogen to satisfy industry needs in the foreseeable future. The interim solution is blue hydrogen, with the supporting infrastructure and systems being transferable to green hydrogen in the future, provided that there is enough supply. A key insight made was that the cost of blue hydrogen is based on price of natural gas, whereas the cost of green hydrogen is based on the price of renewable energy. Andrzej Czulak from the Polish Cluster of Composite Technologies / Polski Klaster Technologii Kompozytowych talked about how his region in the south of Poland is limited by the lack of carbon storage and thus needs to explore alternative strategies. They will look to first transform heavy industry and develop composite materials for storage and transportation of hydrogen. (I.e. tanks, vessels, pipelines). A key reminder that one hydrogen solution does not fit all. Jim Sarvinis from Hatch provided some Canadian representation on the panel and stressed how interest in hydrogen is increasing. However, the fact remains that we are starting from a small base and there are only a few hydrogen projects built out in Canada. He stressed that the price of hydrogen is high at the moment and thus there is a need to focus on hard to abate industries such as the aviation sector, ships, and steel making that would benefit from access to low-carbon intensity energy solutions and thus pay a premium. As the supply increases and the price drops, hydrogen can be integrated into other applications. This session provided a great opportunity to hear perspectives from outside of Canada and highlighted the collaboration opportunities available around the globe. #CHC2024 #hydrogen #cleanenergy #cleantechnologies #energy #HydrogenWeekYEG #H2Week2024

🔊 The growing interest of companies, industry associations, and institutions in hydrogen development demonstrates its pivotal role in the energy transition. And, of course, we're seeing more and more gatherings, summits, and exhibitions addressing its present and future. Not long ago, we bid farewell to the European Hydrogen Energy Conference (EHEC) 2024, and last week we attended the 4th Global Hydrogen Forum. Now, we are gearing up for the next event, the World Hydrogen Summit & Exhibition 2024, an excellent forum to engage, share experiences, develop strategies, and establish leadership in a crucial sector for societal decarbonization. 📅 It will take place on May 13th, 14th, and 15th in Rotterdam, Netherlands. We'll be there representing Sener at booth B04, as part of the associate companies of the Cluster de Energía | Basque Energy Cluster, to discuss project development across the entire value chain of #greenhydrogen. See you there? 😉 #Sener
