The Story of Airbnb's "Belong Anywhere" Campaign 🌍✈️ Once upon a time in 2014, Airbnb embarked on a mission to change the way people traveled. They didn't just want to offer places to stay; they wanted to create experiences that made travelers feel like they belonged anywhere. In a world where travel often meant staying in cookie-cutter hotels, Airbnb stood out. They celebrated the diversity of homes—from cozy city lofts to charming countryside cottages. Each place wasn't just a bed; it was a gateway to local culture and unique adventures. 🏡🌟 Through captivating images and heartfelt stories, Airbnb painted a picture of travel as a journey of connection and discovery. They showcased hosts who welcomed guests not just into their homes but into their lives, sharing meals, stories, and local secrets. 📸😊 The heart of the campaign was community. Airbnb highlighted the friendships formed between hosts and guests, showing how travelers became part of neighborhoods and cultural traditions. It wasn't just about visiting; it was about living like a local and making memories that lasted a lifetime. 🤝❤️ The impact was profound. Travelers embraced Airbnb's vision of belonging anywhere, seeking authentic experiences over tourist traps. The campaign sparked a global movement towards meaningful travel, where every stay was a chance to connect and belong. 🌟🌐 Since then, Airbnb has continued to evolve, expanding its community and offerings while staying true to its belief in inclusivity and cultural exchange. The legacy of "Belong Anywhere" lives on, reminding us that travel isn't just about places—it's about the people we meet and the stories we share along the way. 🚀🌍 Airbnb Airbnb Host Community #BelongAnywhere #Airbnb #TravelExperiences #CommunityTravel #CulturalExchange #AuthenticTravel #ExploreTogether #TravelInspiration #GlobalConnections #StayLocal

We believe what is missing in the current travel design is a greater emphasis on the What (Product) and insufficient consulting of the Why (Purpose) and How (Better practices). #culturalsensitivity
𝐖𝐞 𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐟𝐞𝐫 𝐦𝐨𝐫𝐞 𝐬𝐩𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐞𝐨𝐮𝐬 𝐬𝐨𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐥 𝐞𝐱𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐧 𝐩𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐧𝐞𝐝 𝐨𝐧𝐞𝐬! Recently, we have coincidentally been involved in many events revolving around cultural sensitivity. There are great encouraging words when guests deeply appreciated the connecting, other may feel uncomfortable with planned encounters. While practicing #peoplecentered tourism, we have been navigating the fine lines between preserving authenticity and embracing interculturality. "Fulfilling in Connecting" conveys the message we aim to inspire our conscious travelers with regarding the #slowtravel concept. There will be no fixed time frame, but thematic highlights and trip cohesion to convey the purpose of immersion. 💚 Through the multitude of human and cultural contacts, we must handle with prudence. Which is why spontaneity may not always be possible. Twenty years ago, our city, Hue, initiated a program hosting tourists to visit traditional garden houses. The host families were busy keeping their residence readily welcoming and widely open. Groups of tourists came in and out, sometimes the guides put aside the family as "a witness". Many closed their doors afterward, but that practice of spontaneity persists today. This had many bad consequences for the hosts, the travelers, which we cannot fully articulate due to limited space in these posts. 💚 Slow Travel Hue approached this must-planned visit purposefully different. No one can expect any hospitality to be nurtured in the long run, without intentionally investing time, talent, and caring for our sensitive HOME. We are occasionally inquired by partners' travel consultants on how to handle guests who like local immersion but don’t want to visit any local homes or dining with local family. 💚 We believe what is missing in the current travel design is a greater emphasis on the What (Product) and insufficient consulting of the Why (Purpose) and How (Better practices). 💚 So we gently equip our partners with all cultural insights and reasoning, and hopefully, they will help their travelers make well-informed decisions. Some may prefer a cultural chat with the host family at the dining table, while others may want to help cook and taste from the kitchen, and still, others may prefer some interaction but a certain space when dining. Nevertheless, travelers should be aware that this is part of cultural immersion, to gain a deeper understanding of traditional living and family values than just a place to eat. They can opt out of home visits or dining experiences to explore other sightseeing because without prior arrangements is also a burden for the community and degrade their hospitality. 💚 Every encounter should be made with careful preparation for hosts and guests to regenerate the essential art of travel. #renegerativetourism #culturalsensitivity #communitytourism #sustainability #nature #happiness

Escaping into solitude? 🍃 About 2 years ago we started renting out a wooden house in the hills of Slovenia. Close to the capital, but secluded with no one around. After successful 2 summer seasons on Airbnb, we can see some trends: ➡️ Nearly all of the guests were aged 28 - 36 and were couples ➡️ We had 3 solo guests - they wanted to move away from the city, work on their creative projects, or have a digital detox ➡️ All of the last 6 guests were with dogs (1 also came with a cat!) ➡️ They come from Western European countries or the US (mostly from big cities) ➡️ All of them rated the house with 5* and we got a super host status The guests were eagerly waiting to get away from the city and be alone. Mostly they just want to hike around and are not even interested in additional activities. This shift towards nature-centric tourism is not only a preference for people from busy Western European and US cities but also indicates a broader change in travel behaviors, valuing tranquility and privacy. Where do you “escape” to wind down or work creatively?

There is so much to celebrate and be grateful for this week: 🏆 Booking.com has been named the most valuable Dutch #brand in the Kantar #Brandz ranking. According to Kantar what unites their most valuable Dutch brands is “three essential qualities: they are Meaningful, Different and Salient. They have each built powerful connections allowing them to create shareholder value faster, resist market downturns, and recover sooner from recessions.” 🍽️ Her Royal Highness Queen Máxima of the Netherlands opened A Beautiful Mess - a restaurant and social enterprise that offers job opportunities to those who fled to the Netherlands from their adverse circumstances, helping them gain work experience while becoming socially and financially independent. The restaurant’s mother organization, Refugee Company also offers learn-work programs like language lessons, basic civic integration, personal development and wellbeing classes, to people with refugee backgrounds in the restaurant’s learning spaces. This is the first of our four social #impact partners in the public spaces on the ground floor of Booking.com’s headquarters in Amsterdam. 🔸The Queen’s visit to our building in Amsterdam was the perfect start into the #KingsDay weekend - a day mostly dedicated to family and friends in the Netherlands. 🗞️ Meanwhile, on the other side of the Atlantic Washington DC’s media and policy folks are celebrating the First Amendment at the @White HousCorrespondents Dinner. The proceeds from the dinner go towards scholarships for aspiring journalists and awards recognizing excellence in the profession. 🏨 With all this going on, I continue to feel humbled and privileged to do my job in #PublicAffairs, in travel tech and at Booking.com and Booking Holdings (NASDAQ: BKNG). No better place to be right now. 🌅 If you are interested in reading a little more about why I believe travel is a force for good, check out my piece on Euronews. Like any other sector, travel can have negative side effects. I share three examples of how cities manage them with a tailored mix of policies: #Paris, #Vienna and #Copenhagen. Destinations have the opportunity and the responsibility to manage inbound tourism and to balance it with their residents’ interests. If managed well, the manifold upsides of travel clearly outweigh potential downsides. https://lnkd.in/eE8m7wkX

Just dove into Airbnb's latest scoop on 2024 travel trends (EU+AU) and here's my takeaway: It's not just about where we're going; it's about how we're getting there and the stories we'll tell. What I learned is profound yet simple. Travel is evolving into a narrative, not just a journey. Places like Japan, Brazil, and Paris are more than pins on a map; they're chapters in a global storybook, waiting to be explored. As a San Diegan deeply rooted in the hospitality sector, this resonates. We're shifting from being mere destinations to creators of experiences, memories, and stories. So, as we gear up for 2024, let's not just plan trips; let's craft adventures that will linger in our guests' hearts and minds. Let's transform every journey into a tale worth sharing. #traveltrends2024

The rise of the sharing economy in the hospitality sector is reshaping the travel industry globally, and the Middle East is no exception. The sharing economy, which refers to the peer-to-peer exchange of accommodations and travel experiences through platforms such as Airbnb and Dubizzle, presents both challenges and opportunities for traditional hospitality players.
