Matt Thornhill, author of this top-read article in 2023, thinks a big shift is coming in senior living. That's because many existing senior living communities can't survive if they only focus on meeting the needs of the top 5-10% of the market. It will be a big shift for design, too -- away from high-end hospitality-like properties to environments that meet the needs and preferences of the middle market. #seniorlivingdesign #designforseniors #seniorliving #bigshift https://lnkd.in/gmv2Y6CH

As a business owner and advocate of accessible short-term rentals, it is important that the short-term rental (STR) industry take a good look at the proposed changes to STR regulations in British Columbia, outlined in Bill 45, the "Homes for Homes Act," where short-term rentals will primarily be limited to the host's principal residence. Here is a quick look at the facts. Remember, Bill 45 is up for vote on May 1, 2024. Existing accessible STRs operated outside the principal residence requirement could be forced to close, reducing available options for travelers with disabilities. The new regulations create uncertainty for potential new accessible STR businesses. Policymakers may not fully consider the specific needs of the disability community when designing regulations, potentially overlooking the importance of accessible STRs. It's crucial to understand any exemptions for accessible STRs within the legislation or future clarifications. Effective enforcement of existing accessibility regulations remains essential to ensure existing options are safe and meet accessibility standards. The overall impact of Bill 45 on accessible STRs remains unclear. There are significant concerns about losing existing options and creating barriers for new accessible businesses. Becoming rentABLE is asking for STR industry support to ensure accessible STRs remain available and meet the needs of travelers with disabilities. It is important to share your voice. Please sign this petition so our voices will be heard: https://lnkd.in/gb8aeVGm
