Today is Lung Cancer Screening Day, and the VA has teamed up with the American Cancer Society, the National Lung Cancer Roundtable and the American College of Cardiology to encourage Veterans nationwide to talk to their healthcare provider about getting screened for lung cancer. Lung Cancer is the leading cause of cancer deaths among Veterans. However, if lung cancer is detected early, it can be treated, and lives can be saved. NASA - National Aeronautics and Space Administration also encourages everyone to get ahead of screening and prevention. Let's honor our Veterans and fight against lung cancer together. Another Cancer Research in #space Story? #6 Space and #pharma Success Stories Paul Jaminet, founder and CEO of Angiex initiated a #spacemission to advance their understanding of Cancer therapy. Their goal: To explore the potential of a novel #cancer therapy targeting both tumour cells and the endothelial cells of tumour blood vessels. Their journey yielded some useful #findings - Angiex confirmed the unique behaviour of endothelial cells in #microgravity, offering insights into #vascular health and the effects of space on #cellular biology. Recognised for their work, Angiex was awarded the Mass Challenge "Technology in Space Prize" by the ISS National Laboratory and Boeing. Happy March - and International Women's month! In the video below that Virgin Galactic provides following all their #spaceflight and for every passenger/astronaut on the Eve/Unity spacecrafts, here is one of Lina Borozdina, who become astronaut 023 with VG in January 2024. Lina, a Ukrainian/American, says, "[the Earth] doesn't have borders, doesn't have countries, just one blue, fragile planet, with no conflict, nothing". Lina is also a breast cancer survivor and says that going to space drove her to heal and make her childhood dream come true. A scientist, a women who grew up "behind the iron curtain", Lina has a message to young women: "Don't let anyone tell you that you cannot achieve something." Virgin says it will have one more spaceflight in the 2nd quarter of this year, and then wait for the next-generation spaceplane, Delta, to start flying again, but the inspiration that it brought to all those who flew, who followed these flights or watched in person (as I was lucky to have), going to space is a dream for many - and then, it leaves those who have done it in awe of the experience, and of seeing the Earth from space: Overview Effect. After my experience of being there at Spaceport America and watching a spaceflight in person, I wrote this piece called: "Women (And Diversity) in the Space Sector", and how seeing so many women play different roles for each spaceflight was so inspiring to see (article in comment). Excited to see what comes next in this industry! What can vision do? Think the answer is right there. It sure is fascinating when a load of business opportunities are around us and someone decides I’d rather invest in space travel. The aspirstions of a leader and entrepreneur driving a vision of such extraordinary proportions. Good to see nature’s beauty on earth, great to get a glimpse of the beauty from top of it. While aspiring for such great vision is needed, I don’t think a second and forget that’s possible because of the strong platform Richard Branson created with his Virgin brand.
