The Guardian reports that rents in Barcelona have increased by 68% over the past decade, making it unaffordable for some locals to rent an apartment. How do you think this will impact the tourism industry in Spain? Do you think Croatia will be forced to do the same soon? Let us know in the comments below! #Rentlio #VacationRentals #TourismTrends

Barcelona to ban all short term rentals by 2029❗️❗️ Skift just wrote about the topic, citing statement of Barcelona Mayor, who is fed up with rising prices of accomodations and overturism in the city. Huge number of short term accomodation creates problems with long term accomodation for local residents, pushing them out of the city. Recently Barcelona also released a regulation to control long term rentals, establishing maximum rental prices. Some short term rental entrepreneurs consider these measures excessive. 😨😨 In my opinion numbers of tourism and touristic accomodations should be controlled way before they become a huge problem for a destination. Barcelona current situation clearly shows we urgently need sustainable tourism solutions and long term strategy that takes into account both, tourist and locals interests. 🤔🤔 You can find the full article in the first comment👇🏻👇🏻 What do you think about Mayor’s decision? #tourism #travel #shorttermrental #realestate #barcelona

Lisbon Is Europe’s Best Capital City to Be a Tourist This Year For a long time now, Lisbon has been a target in the eyes of well-traveled people, and not in vain. The city is widely known for its colorful buildings, beautiful scenery, and warm climate. However, for travel enthusiasts, in particular post-pandemic and amidst global inflation, Lisbon offers way much more than that. Placed first in VisaGuide.World’s ranking of Europe’s best capital cities to be a tourist in during 2024, Lisbon is one of the cheapest destinations on this list to visit, with an estimated average of €385 needed to spend a week in the city. Yet, these prices will for sure increase next year due to inflation. In addition, tourists staying in Lisbon will soon have to pay a €4 tax per night spent. Moreover, its citizens are some of the friendliest, just after Spaniards and Italians, and second best when it comes to English knowledge, just after the Dutch, Britons excluded. Data from Portugal’s National Institute of Statistics (INE) show that in 2023, the city witnessed a 40.2 percent increase in total revenues and a 43 percent increase in accommodation revenues compared to 2019.

Inspiring move by Barcelona – The over-toured city is helping locals return by reinstating its housing supply. By 2029 no homes will have permission to be rented as tourist accommodation. This won't fix the entire situation, as rental caps and a diversification away from tourism is needed – but it sets an inspiring precedent to watch for other global cities. #sustainabletourism #housingaffordability #makingspaceforculture https://lnkd.in/gk_23ube

Arrival Projects- Brand Strategy and Go-to-Market for Travel, Tourism, Hospitality, Travel Tech, and Real Estate
Barcelona city's tourism board Consorci de Turisme de Barcelona officially launched their new campaign today, "This is Barcelona," coinciding with the first day of the America's Cup race. The slogan replaces the 15-year-old "Visit Barcelona." Amidst visitors getting shot with water pistols, sky-high rents blamed on tourist apartments, an overcrowded city center, etc., the shift is from promoting mass tourism to attracting higher-value visitors who are more likely to engage with the city's culture, identity, and heritage. What the campaign hopes to do: - Increase the focus on quality tourism: highlight Barcelona’s unique cultural, gastronomic, and artistic offerings. - Manage visitor/resident needs: address the significant local frustration with the volume of tourists. - Balance economic impact: the overall number of tourists continues to rise, with a reported 5.9% increase in tourist arrivals in May 2024 compared to the previous year. Barcelona's economy needs tourism, but the debate is how much and how to balance it with quality of life for residents. #barcelona #destinationmarketing #travelandtourism #placebranding

The tourism sector anticipates the best summer in history for Málaga. Only a week has passed since the start of the summer season, but the tourism sector in the province of Málaga already has numbers that confirm we are heading for a record-breaking summer. Hotel reservations for July, for example, are already two percentage points higher than the close of this month in 2023. The data presented shows an 8.1% increase in the number of travelers staying in regulated establishments during the first four months of 2024, reaching 2,229,706 travelers. This increase is mainly attributed to the growth of foreign tourism, which has risen by 16%, while national tourism has decreased by 3.6%. Overnight stays also grew by 12%, reaching 8 million, with a notable 18.4% rise in overnight stays by foreign tourists. #tourism #recordsummer
