Is avian influenza becoming less deadly and does it mean less risk? New analysis shows that case fatality rate (CFR) has dropped to a 33% average over the last 9 years, from 62% pre-2015. While this may appear to be a positive development, a lower CFR typically signifies a better adapted #virus to a host. If this trend continues, it may signal #H5N1 becoming more suited for sustaining human-human infection. Dengue is a viral infection transmitted primarily by mosquitoes. It is prevalent in tropical and subtropical regions, with symptoms ranging from mild fever, headache, and joint pain to severe expressions such as hemorrhagic fever and shock syndrome, which can be life-threatening. There is no specific treatment for dengue, so management typically involves alleviating symptoms and preventing dehydration. Prevention efforts focus on reducing mosquito breeding sites and avoiding mosquito bites through the use of insect repellents and protective clothing. Dengue is a significant public health concern in many parts of the world, and early detection and prompt medical attention are essential for minimizing its impact. This National Dengue Day, let's come together to raise awareness about the critical need to decrease mosquito populations. By taking proactive measures to control mosquito breeding sites, we can help prevent the spread of dengue fever and protect public health. Dengue fever is a serious global health threat that’s rapidly spreading. In the coming decades, it’s expected that another billion people will be exposed to dengue fever due to climate change. In the tropical regions of Honduras, we’ve been responding to dengue outbreaks since 1998. However, current prevention tools are no longer adequate and there aren’t any specific treatments or vaccines available that provide sufficient protection against infection. We’re responding by ramping up our efforts using new, innovative, and environmentally friendly methods to intercept dengue transmission and prevent other arboviruses.

Really proud of this paper 😁 In this study, we observed daily changes in mosquito population abundance, age structure, and West Nile virus infection rates in response to adulticide spraying. It was a ton of work, but so worth it https://lnkd.in/ggj-_jCZ

Breaking: WHO and Mexico reports the First ever Human Case and death from Avian Influenza A(H5N2) ➣ Details below: This is different from the H5N1, that’s more active lately. The 59-year-old died in Mexico City and had no known exposures or contact with any poultry or other animals. Close contacts also tested negative. This is the first globally reported human case of influenza A(H5N2). In line with IHR (2005) guidelines, this novel influenza A virus subtype must be notified to the WHO due to its potential high public health impact. Risk to the general population is currently low. Immediate Actions Being Taken🔷 ********** ✔️Efforts are underway to trace contacts and identify the source of infection. ✔️Surveillance in both human and poultry populations is being intensified. ✔️Strict infection control measures are implemented in healthcare settings to prevent further spread. *********** Stay informed. #PublicHealth #HealthSecurity #BreakingNews

Dengue is a viral infection transmitted by the bite of female Aedes mosquitoes, primarily Aedes aegypti. The virus causes flu-like symptoms, including high fever, severe headaches, joint and muscle pain, skin rashes, and in severe cases, bleeding and organ failure. Dengue can escalate into severe dengue (also known as dengue hemorrhagic fever or dengue shock syndrome), which can be life-threatening. To ensure safety and prevent dengue, it is crucial to reduce mosquito breeding by eliminating stagnant water where mosquitoes lay their eggs. This includes clearing gutters, covering containers, and disposing of items like tires that collect rainwater. Personal protection involves wearing long-sleeved clothing, using insect repellent containing DEET, and sleeping under mosquito nets. Communities can help by participating in local efforts to control mosquito populations, such as fogging or spraying insecticides in high-risk areas. Early medical intervention is essential for anyone showing symptoms of dengue, especially in areas prone to outbreaks. Since no specific antiviral treatment exists, supportive care, including hydration and pain relief, is key to managing the disease. Prevention is the most effective way to avoid dengue. #dengue #mylyfcare
