The year was 2020. Sounds like a great start, doesn’t it? Our founders, a motley crew of #aviation enthusiasts with a combined airtime exceeding a lifetime, were huddled around a whiteboard the size of a small hangar, brainstorming. The session reached its peak. We needed a name for our company and our fledgling #software developed specifically for #business aviation, something that captured the essence of #innovation with a name that soared as high as our aspirations to revolutionize and move forward the whole industry.“ ✈
Apex flights”? Too generic. “Sky movers”? Too whimsical. “Cloud chasers”? Already trademarked by a skydiving outfit. Frustration hung thick in the air. Then, #inspiration struck Robert, our CEO – back then and still now – an aviation professional with years of #chartering experience, with a mischievous glint in his eye. “What if,” he declared, channeling his inner Tom Cruise, “we give it a name that evokes the act of flying and feeling of flight itself? Something daring, something...unconventional?”
Silence. Crickets. Tumbleweeds. Then, a slow smile crept across everyone’s face. It was perfect! Short, memorable, evocative and airborne – which, coincidentally, is exactly what VOO means – “flight” in Portuguese, and also has a touch of international flair.
It was...not a Scrabble word in English? Apparently, according to Ivanna, our resident word-nerd, VOO wouldn’t win her any Scrabble games. But hey, who needs Scrabble when you have the power to whisk CEOs to international deals faster than Maverick dodging missiles in an F-14?
So, VOO it was – a little bit of linguistics, dash of serendipity, and a whole lot of experience, spiced with wits of fun. After all, who needs a Scrabble-approved name when you have the entire sky as your canvas? VOO – a name that defied definition, just like our ambition to revolutionize business aviation.
And VOO is as cool as a cucumber in your gin tonic highball glass – stirred, but not shaken (because with VOO, there’s no turbulence just bookings, remember?).
