Check out our final post about the Transcontinental Race. This life experience was my biggest adventure so far and besides all the body damage and discomfort it was worth pursuing. I have observed so many different landscapes, mountains, people and cultures, trees, plants, animals... and mostly, myself! I learned a lot about perception and how our state of mind is crucial when dealing with the everyday road. Finding the right mindset is sometimes the most challenging part but essential to start overcome a problem. Moreover, this search is a kind of fine dance between your body state and mental state. It's not about feeling good or bad. Actually, this is not that important, you will feel both feelings repeatedly, exactly like a wave, and it is better just to recognize, accept and focus on what are you able to do at that moment. Stoicism teaches us that there are countless things in life that we do not control, but we can always control the way we react to these things. Of course, being 12-18 hours per day riding a bike for 20 days naturally puts you in a flow state and very grounded but modern life is much more complex. That's why I appreciated so much this opportunity where I needed basically to find a way to keep pedalling and advancing. 𝗧𝗛𝗢𝗪𝗕𝗔𝗖𝗞 𝗧𝗛𝗨𝗥𝗦𝗗𝗔𝗬: If you've watched any of the Paris Olympics to date, you've probably seen images of its stunning Olympic cauldron, which wowed the world when lit at the end of the opening ceremonies last week. The cauldron was designed by Mathieu Lehanneur in the shape of a hot air balloon to commemorate France's history of flight, including the first manned hydrogen balloon flight by inventors Jacques Charles and Nicolas-Louis Robert on December 1, 1783. Their balloon was launched from the Jardin des Tuileries where the current Olympic cauldron sits. This is the first Olympic cauldron to operate entirely fuel-free, running on 100% renewable electricity generated in France and provided by EDF Renouvelables. So, what you see is not a flame, but the illusion of one created by combining LED lighting with mist. This was done for safety reasons related to the cauldron’s suspension in air. The Paris 2024 Olympics are committed to being the most sustainable Games in history, and hydrogen plays a key role in this transition towards a greener and environmentally-friendly economy. Air Liquide, as official hydrogen supporter of the Games, is committed to using its expertise to ensure hydrogen is a key part of the transition. For the first time in the history of the Games, the Olympic Flame shines without fuel. So, how does it burn you might ask? 🔥 The cauldron is a key showcase of the organizers’ ambition for a low-carbon Olympics cutting its emissions in half and the emissions of one of its main symbols. The design of the Paris 2024 Olympic flame is very different from previous games in that it is fueled by electricity rather than fossil fuels. The ring at the base of the balloon houses 40 LED lights. These lights illuminate a cloud of water vapor produced by 200 high-pressure misting sprinklers to give the flickering and smoke effect of real flames. A meticulous combination of a cloud of mist and beams of light, the Olympic Flame will flicker with electricity as its sole source of energy. It demonstrates the use of a newer technology to not produce too many emissions.  Paris organizing chief said: “We were ambitious and we wanted to bring together something spectacular and environmental responsibility at the same time.” And spectacular it was!
