I really appreciate this framework and the role it plays in our work at Barr - AND I keep thinking about how helpful it would have been in my previous roles. When you work in advocacy, you have to choose what you will focus on at any given moment. By laying out a comprehensive framework, the Indicators of School Quality can help advocates pinpoint how the issues they are tackling connect with others, and what else needs to move to drive impact for young people.
Director of Education at Barr Foundation | School Design, Nonprofit Management, Education Policy, Program Development, Philanthropy
The Barr Foundation Education Program believes that all young people are worthy of a fantastic high school experience that supports them to flourish during their adolescent years and prepares them to pursue their dreams and goals. But what do excellent and equitable high schools look like in practice? Our team recently reflected on the value of anchoring our work in the seven Indicators of School Quality, developed by Springpoint, and some of the ways our school and nonprofit partners are using this framework to advance equity and excellence in New England high schools. #doingHSdifferently https://lnkd.in/em4fGGkh

📣 We can’t talk about educational equity without decolonizing education. How can a system, historically designed and upheld by white people, be truly inclusive and prioritize the success of all? It cannot. Educational equity is action—creating or eliminating policies, systems, and practices, not providing kids with boxes in order to help them see a baseball game. This inaccurate image fosters deficit-model thinking and oversimplification of the systemic barriers certain students face due to institutional structures. Decolonizing education entails rebuilding a school system that serves the needs of all students, staff, and educators, tailored to each child's unique requirements. Every individual deserves an equitable opportunity and a quality education, regardless of ethnicity, location, or income. Without fundamental changes to our education system, success for every student will remain elusive. #educationalequity #qualityeducation #nonprofit #youthadvocacy

The Critical Role of School Supplies in Student Success As a new school year begins, the financial strain on families is undeniable. The cost of school supplies, including backpacks, uniforms, textbooks, and other essentials, quickly adds up. For families with more than one child, these costs can increase by as much as 30%, placing a heavy burden on households with limited income. Ensuring that children are prepared for school becomes a challenge, and many parents struggle to provide even the basics. On average, families with one child may spend between ₦80,000 and ₦120,000 during school resumption. However, for families with two or more children, this amount can double or even triple. The cost of equipping multiple children with the necessary items often means sacrifices are made in other areas of the family budget, affecting the overall well-being of the household. To address this issue, the Brilliance and Purposeful Foundation's "Bag a Child" initiative aims to support families by providing essential school supplies to children in need. By easing this financial burden, we can help parents and ensure that every child starts the school year ready to learn and succeed. Let’s come together to lighten the load for these families and support their children’s education. #BPFOutreach #SupportEducation #EconomicImpact #BagAChild #SupportFamilies #EducationForAll #VolunteerWithBPF #DonateForChange #EmpowerThroughEducation

Charter schools are publicly funded institutions that operate independently of traditional public school systems. They are granted autonomy in exchange for accountability, typically operating under a charter contract with a sponsoring entity, such as a school district, university, or nonprofit organization. Charter schools often have specific missions or focuses, such as arts integration, STEM education, or Montessori principles. They have the flexibility to innovate in teaching methods and curriculum design, but they must adhere to academic standards outlined in their charter agreements. While charter schools are open to all students, they may have enrollment preferences or admission lotteries if demand exceeds capacity. These schools are funded by taxpayer dollars on a per-pupil basis and are subject to oversight by their authorizers to ensure they meet performance benchmarks and comply with relevant regulations. #task12 #talentserve #charterschools
