Charter schools are publicly funded institutions that operate independently of traditional public school systems. They are granted autonomy in exchange for accountability, typically operating under a charter contract with a sponsoring entity, such as a school district, university, or nonprofit organization. Charter schools often have specific missions or focuses, such as arts integration, STEM education, or Montessori principles. They have the flexibility to innovate in teaching methods and curriculum design, but they must adhere to academic standards outlined in their charter agreements. While charter schools are open to all students, they may have enrollment preferences or admission lotteries if demand exceeds capacity. These schools are funded by taxpayer dollars on a per-pupil basis and are subject to oversight by their authorizers to ensure they meet performance benchmarks and comply with relevant regulations. #task12 #talentserve #charterschools

It's #NationalCharterSchoolsWeek, and even in 2024, there are still individuals unaware of what a charter school truly is! Shockingly, just yesterday, a state official referred to a charter school as a "private school" at an event. If you're a charter supporter, leader, advocate, or board member, let's spread the facts and clear up misconceptions! -Charter schools are publicly funded schools that operate independently of traditional public school districts. -Charter schools have more autonomy than traditional public schools in terms of curriculum, hiring practices, and budget management. This flexibility allows them to innovate and tailor their programs to meet the needs of their students. -While charter schools have more freedom than traditional public schools, they are still held accountable for their academic performance and financial management. They must adhere to state academic standards and undergo regular evaluations to ensure accountability. -Charter schools serve a diverse student population, including students from various racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds. Many charter schools focus on serving specific communities or addressing specific educational needs, such as language immersion programs or STEM education. -Charter schools receive public funding on a per-pupil basis, similar to traditional public schools. - Charter schools are open to all students and are not allowed to discriminate on the basis of race, ethnicity, religion, disability, or other factors. In cases where demand exceeds available space, charter schools may use a lottery system to determine admissions. #wearecharter #charterstrong #spreadtruth #spreadfacts #charteradvocates #chartersupporters

While “funding” or lack thereof, isn’t a valid reason to not provide a free and appropriate public education, it is absolutely a concern amongst school districts nationwide. We need better funding to all schools to assist them in funding special education fully. #specialeducation #specialeducationlaw #education #schooldistricts https://lnkd.in/gCNriPGV

"Our schools have been designed to fail certain children and certain adolescents. That’s the history I’ve been trying to put in front of you. "Conceptually that’s a vital topic, but we need to see the trees in that forest. We need to look closely at the many tiny tools of oppression and exclusion that chase those students into failure, or just out the door. "From our buildings to our schedule, to our furniture, to the technologies we prefer, to the ways we spend money (and raise money), to every policy we have in place, to teacher training, to professional development, to our practices and philosophies, we are either welcoming all learners to opportunity or we are doing something different." #education #educationalleadership #school #americanhistory #equityineducation https://lnkd.in/e_mgRPXC

ISPD TOOLKIT TIP # 8: PARISH AND SCHOOL COLLABORATION For over 35 years, all of us here at ISPD have heard these sentences many times: Parish Leader: “Our Catholic school keeps draining the parish budget. When are we going to stop subsidizing everything they do? We don’t have money left to fund our own ministries!” School Leader: “Our parish just doesn’t support us! This school is the largest ministry in the parish, and we hardly receive any financial support from them. Maybe Father wants us to close.” Here are some questions to ponder: 1. If you are a parochial school, what percentage of your parents view the school as a ministry of the parish? 2. What educational vehicles do you have in place that show to parents that the school is a ministry of the parish? 3. What educational vehicles do you have in place that show to parishioners that the school is one of the most important ministries in the parish? Collaboration is the process of two or more people, entities, or organizations working together to complete a task or achieve a goal or build strengths in numbers. There are 7 characteristics of a parish/school collaborative effort. 1. Strong leadership 2. Clearly defined roles 3. Consistent, united, and enthusiastic effort 4. Effective and frequent communication 5. Shared resources 6. Periodic, temporary, or permanent suppression of ego 7. Unanimous focus on a common goal In the areas of Development/Advancement – Enrollment Management – Stewardship, there are so many opportunities for the parish and school to work together. Most do not. In today’s culture, this is not the time for the parish and the school to be at odds or be in different corners. We need to OPEN WIDE THE BOX to educating all. Why do most national and regional conferences and webinars and seminars and books and podcasts and workshops usually concentrate on stewardship for the parishes and development/advancement for the schools? Wrong approach! Now is the time for our parishes and schools to join together. There is a reason 35 years ago we named this company the Institute for School AND Parish Development.

Are You A School Choice Family? According to Webster’s Dictionary, School Choice is a program or policy in which students are given the choice to attend a school other than their district's public school (as at a charter school, private school, home school, or at a public school in a different district). Are you a School Choice Family? If so, please read on to learn how School Choice is being attacked in the State of Arizona! Governor Hobbs FY 2025 Executive Budget Summary states: "The Executive Budget repeals the Student Tuition Organization (STO) income tax credit that funds scholarships for students to attend qualified private schools located in Arizona beginning in tax-year 2025" I am not only the Executive Director for the Institute for Better Education (an Arizona School Tuition Organization-STO), I am also a member and Board Treasurer for the Arizona School Tuition Organization Association (ASTOA). ASTOA, along with its members, has recently been a part of the effort to bring awareness to Governor Hobbs' attack on School Choice by creating Save School Choice, an organized campaign that factually addresses the current state of School Choice in Arizona. I encourage you to visit the Save School Choice Website at SaveSchoolChoice.org. Through this website, there are opportunities to engage through Facebook and Instagram as well as sign up and receive their Newsletters so you can stay up to date through their social media platforms with the current School Choice landscape. While Governor Hobbs will not likely succeed with her efforts to end STOs and harm School Choice this legislative session, we need to be ready should that fight come to our doorstep. With the election right around the corner, it is imperative that School Choice supporters fully understand what is on the line, which is the future of School Choice in Arizona. We are always stronger together! Kim Kimberly J. Kirschner Executive Director Certified Nonprofit Executive

🏫 Private School vs State Schools: Understanding the Key Differences 📚 Choosing the right educational path for your child can be daunting. Let’s break down five major differences between private and state schools: 1️⃣ Funding: Private schools rely on tuition fees and donations, offering financial independence but often at a higher cost. In contrast, state schools are funded by the government through taxes, making them free or low-cost for families. 2️⃣ Class Sizes: Private schools typically feature smaller class sizes, allowing for more personalised attention. State schools, on the other hand, often have larger classes, which can limit individual interaction. 3️⃣ Curriculum Flexibility: Private schools enjoy greater freedom to tailor their curriculums, offering specialised programmes like advanced placements and the International Baccalaureate. State schools must adhere to a national curriculum, ensuring standardisation but less flexibility. 4️⃣ Admission Criteria: Private schools can be selective, often requiring entrance exams and interviews, while state schools must accept all students within their catchment area, promoting inclusivity. 5️⃣ Extracurricular Activities: Private institutions usually offer a broader range of extracurricular activities, from sports to arts, thanks to better funding. State schools may face limitations in this area, though opportunities can vary widely. Understanding these differences can help you make an informed decision about your child's education. Yesterday, the Biden administration released its FY 2025 discretionary budget request and proposed $1.3 billion for afterschool and summer programs funded through the Nita M. Lowey 21st Century Community Learning Centers—level with FY 2023. While the lack of a proposed increase for 21st CCLC comes amidst record unmet demand for afterschool programs and increasing program costs, there are a few bright spots: $200M increase for Title I Grants to Local Education Agencies; $8B to create the Academic Acceleration and Achievement Grant program; $5M increase for the Youth Mentoring Initiative; and more! https://lnkd.in/ekFamypu

The responses to The Big Ambition are clear, children really value their education, many love their teachers, but they want to see schools focus on a stronger pastoral support offer. In the year ahead, I will be using more of these findings from The Big Ambition to inform my vision for the school system. I want to ensure that the voices of England’s children shape the education system which serves them. https://lnkd.in/eBkNzDD2
