What if I told you your organization can achieve diversity, unity, and belonging by building your culture on two pillars? If either of these pillars is missing, the bridge collapses. The first pillar you must have is intentionality. The second pillar you must have is hospitality. Intentionality says, "we will make concerted efforts to fairly recruit and retain underrepresented (unfamiliar) stakeholders." Hospitality says, "we will create a culture of self-sacrifice, kindness, and compassion where all people feel respected and valued." In this type of organization, everybody thrives and there's minimal hostility toward racial differences. Simple, but not easy.

Last week was a whirlwind for Inclusion Nation! Chicago, Boston, Los Angeles - including a photo shoot at the Walt Disney Concert Hall - our first exhibit booth at the NALP Annual Education Conference, and many powerful and impactful conversations all week long. I couldn't be more grateful for the privilege of connecting with so many amazing folks, just like you! Inclusion Nation is #thriving. Thriving at work matters to me. Meet Angela R. Howard - the Founder and CEO of Call for Culture and a bit about her story that led to building the CFC business and community. Call for Culture is a woman and Black owned social enterprise focused on making the world a better place by building a better world of work 🌎 They’re not a culture fit” was a phrase I heard far too often while working in corporate spaces. My response has always been - “what are they fitting into?” and “if we want them to fit, we’re not creating the culture we think we are.” This was also personal to me. I grew up in Rogers Park - the North side of Chicago - a community rich with diversity, with over 80 countries represented and 40 languages spoken. This brought a beautiful mix of diversity and culture to my life. As a multi-racial kid growing up amongst a utopia of representation, I was sheltered from the idea of having to fit in somewhere until I entered the corporate workforce at age 19. Being the “other” started to become routine for me. For a long time, I felt like “not fitting” was a disadvantage. Entering where I feel like I belonged became more scarce and harder to achieve. I spent a lot of my energy grappling with the dissonance between what organizations said and how I was experiencing them. I learned, then, that my story was not unique - that many organizations had not created workplace cultures and structures that created inclusive spaces where all people were able to thrive. This unique lived experience, my graduate degree in Industrial/Organizational Psychology and spending 15 years leading people and culture teams gave me the confidence and conviction to build Call for Culture . I started this business because it’s time that organizations and leaders see their profound role and responsibility in shaping positive, inclusive, and workplace cultures. Your company has the potential to transform into a meaningful environment where every human on your team is a culture amplifier and can deploy their diverse contributions for positive organizational outcomes and out in their communities for social good.
