'The UK government has launched its consultation on its proposals for kickstarting investment into long-duration energy storage (LDES), which includes a cap-and-floor mechanism and excluding lithium-ion from being eligible.' The consultation outlines that deploying 20GW of LDES between 2030 and 2050 could lead to £24 billion in system savings. Very interesting to see that Pacific Blue Australia is going to build a big battery next to the Clements Gap WF - which was itself built back in 2010. The battery, to be built near Port Pirie in South Australia, will have a storage capacity of 60 MW / 130 MWhr. Great to see that UK energy storage developer Pacific Green is proposing another grid-scale energy storage project in Australia with the 1GW, 2.5GWh big battery project in Portland in Victoria’s south-west. That part of Victoria is a big user of energy with the Portland Aluminium Smelter operating there, as well as a number of other industries. 🚨 Great news as ESB receives planning permission for its 96MW Onshore Wind and 20MW co-located BESS project in Scotland. ESB are working with RSK, who have provided the EIA and other studies, and have given a date of 2027 for commercial operations to begin. Co-locating wind and storage is much less common than doing the same with solar and storage, and Joe Somerville said that the on site battery storage will "contribute to a reduction in energy curtailment and providing grid stability".
