Hello from Ghent! VIB #SpatialOmics24 is all about, you guessed it, #spatialbiology… and all of the latest spatial technologies that allow researchers to accurately map the role of each cell in a sample, which in turn, can help predict disease outcomes or immune response to a novel therapy. Imaging Mass Cytometry™ is one of these technologies, clearly defining areas in any tissue type ― including lung, bone marrow, colon and brain ― without background autofluorescence or spectral overlap. Hester Koppejan covered applications that benefit from this approach in today’s talk: High-plex whole slide spatial biology assays for clinical translational research powered by the Hyperion XTi™. We're excited to share recent CellScape data from our very own Kayla Cashion showing the tissue microenvironment of rectal #adenocarcinoma. By leveraging our #VistaPlex Architecture Kit, Kayla was able identify and visualize key mucosal components within the #tumor #microenvironment. Epithelial Cells: The intestinal crypts show striking expression of E-cadherin (green) and β-catenin (magenta), highlighting the structural integrity of the epithelium. Lamina Propria: Supported by smooth muscle cells marked by alpha-SMA (cyan), the connective tissue is rich in vasculature (CD34 in yellow) and abundant #plasma cells (CD138 in red) that play crucial roles in gut #immunity. DNA Visualization: The cellular architecture is further detailed with blue #DNA staining, allowing us to delve deeper into the cellular landscape with the CellScapes single-cell resolution. Stay tuned as we continue to uncover the complexities of cancer biology.
