📚💡 #MustRead: How can we envision a more 𝐞𝐟𝐟𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐡𝐨𝐥𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐜 version of clinical follow-up for infants born preterm, who are at risk of chronic health issues and developmental challenges? Litt et al. (2024) propose a groundbreaking 𝐥𝐢𝐟𝐞 𝐜𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐬𝐞 𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐭𝐡 𝐝𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐥𝐨𝐩𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 (𝐋𝐂𝐇𝐃) 𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐚𝐜𝐡: At the heart of this vision is a commitment to understanding health as a dynamic, lifelong journey shaped by biological, social, and environmental factors. ⚖️ The transition from the #NICU to home is often burdened with logistical, financial, and emotional hurdles – with poor communities and communities of colour being disproportionately affected by 𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐪𝐮𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐞𝐬 in care access and delivery. Individual-level interventions often fall short in addressing the unique needs of preterm infants and their families, perpetuating poor health outcomes. 🔄 Effective, high-value follow-up care can only be achieved through a 𝐦𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐢-𝐥𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐥 𝐬𝐲𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐦𝐬 𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐚𝐜𝐡.
