  • October is Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness month and although we’re not a birthing hospital, we’re committed to supporting families affected by pregnancy and infant loss, recognizing that this journey impacts every stage of life. “While statistics tell us that 1 in 4 pregnancies ends in miscarriage and 1 in 160 ends in stillbirth, these numbers only scratch the surface of the real impact," says Maleka James, Infant and Child Wellness Initiatives Project Manager. "Each number represents a story—a family who has loved and lost a child, with lives forever changed.” Our efforts include: ⭐ Partnering with community organizations to reduce infant mortality and improve maternal and infant health outcomes. ⭐ Providing legacy boxes with keepsakes, grief support literature, and resources for families who experience infant loss at our hospital. ⭐ Hosting memorial events throughout the year to help families remember, grieve, and express love for their lost loved ones. At Dayton Children’s, we're here for all that matters to you—including the moments of loss and healing. Learn more about our commitment to supporting families in our blog linked below.

  • Dayton Children’s was proud to shine a “spotlight” on children’s mental health as participants of “The Spotlight” event hosted at the University of Dayton Arena earlier this month The Town Hall event was held in honor of Jayda Grant, daughter of University of Dayton head coach Anthony Grant, and was a powerful call to action for greater support of children’s mental health. We were honored to provide attendees with free resources and spread the word about On Our Sleeves, the movement for children’s mental health. Our chief of psychiatry and associate chief medical officer, Dr. Kelly Blankenship, joined as a panelist to share how we can all come together to better support children’s mental well-being. We hope this event inspired others to break the stigma around children’s mental health as part of the #OnOurSleeves Movement. • Could your child be masking their true feelings? Just like the costumes we wear for Halloween, kids sometimes use 'masks' to cover up what they're really feeling. For example: 🎃 They may look mad but they're feeling scared inside. 🎃 They may be acting silly, but they're really feeling embarrassed. 🎃 They may seem happy on the outside but they're feeling anxious on the inside. What’s behind the mask might surprise you! Save these three ways to spot these ‘disguises’ from a children's mental health expert. • It’s not too late to show your support in honor of Charli's incredible journey below for the 27th Annual K99.1FM Cares for Kids Radiothon by making a donation today: https://lnkd.in/gvkNhWjJ Charli came into the world at a mere 24 weeks, weighing only 1lb 0.6oz. At just 4 weeks old, she required surgery, and our specialized team transported her to the NICU at Dayton Children's in our mobile intensive care unit to ensure her safe arrival. In the NICU for 140 days, Charli was able to heal and grow in an optimal environment that was just right for her thanks to the our high-tech Giraffe Omnibeds! Your support helps provide these beds that not only simulate the mother’s womb but they enable minimal touch and reduce stress to the baby during care. They also give parents what matters most to them - close, comfortable access to their baby, along with family-friendly updates on their baby’s progress. 💙 Together, we can make a difference in the lives of children like Charli! * * * #DaytonChildrensHospital #Radiothon #aboveandbeyond4kids #cmn #nicu #daytonohio #childrensmiraclenetwork #K991Radiothon #kidscantwait #nicubaby

  • At Dayton Children’s, we believe everyone deserves a seat at the table. This Disability Employment Awareness Month, we proudly hosted the “Seat at the Table” luncheon, providing an open opportunity for any employee to come together and learn about the experiences of those living with disabilities, both visible and invisible! Our goal is to ensure all employees feel supported and empowered, no matter their abilities. We’re grateful to everyone who joined the luncheon, embraced open conversations with colleagues and were eager to learn something new. A special shout-out to employee Morgan Penrod, who introduced us to the 'spoon theory'—a concept created by blogger Christine Miserandino in 2003 to explain how daily tasks and work can impact a person living with a chronic illness or disability. This understanding helps us to communicate better and provide even stronger support for each other and our patients. We grow as an organization when we learn from one another, and events like this help us understand what matters to our fellow employees and our patient families. That’s why this luncheon holds a special place in our culture. It embodies our belief that by focusing on what matters to you, we can each make a meaningful difference for everyone! • It’s an honor to have earned silver recognition from the American Medical Association (AMA) as a Joy in Medicine™ health organization! This distinction acknowledges organizations that are prioritizing the well-being and professional fulfillment of physicians. 🎉 Dayton Children’s has been uniquely focused on staff wellbeing after the pandemic left health care workers on the edge of burnout. To respond, the hospital deployed several initiatives including staff support clinician, peer support program, and strategizing our communications for wellbeing initiatives under one voice and with a one-stop shop approach called the Nest on our intranet. Learn more about this award and our initiatives today. ⬇️ #WeAreDaytonChildrens #DaytonChildrensHospital #DaytonChildrens
