Meet Nick! Nick is one of our Engineering interns and will be headed back to the University of Idaho to wrap up his Civil Engineering Degree once the summer ends. Why do you love being a part of the AKS internship program? “It gives good insight into what being an engineer is actually like, apart from what is only taught in school.” Nick enjoys running, biking, fishing, and cooking! #aksintern #learningopportunities #meettheteam #internship

This is definitely not my wheelhouse, but I know I have some connections on here that knew my dad out in Oak Ridge and were/are in construction management. Does anyone have connections or insight for a friend of mine who is in school for civil engineering that will be looking for an internship this summer? #internship #constructionmanagement #civilengineering #structuralengineering

Meet our current #Summer2024 #intern, Matthew Bond, George Mason University class of #2026. Why FHWA Central Federal Lands? CFL offers a very hands-on experience where not only do I get an in-person introduction to the #constructionfield, but I get to do so in our #nationalparks and other amazing areas! How Your Experience Has Been So Far: This #internship has gone beyond what I’ve expected I’ve had the #incredibleopportunity to be on the construction site almost daily shadowing the #siteinspectors and learning directly from our #projectengineer. What have you been working on? I’m mainly working on the scenic loop repair project in Theodore Roosevelt National Park south unit in #NorthDakota. A typical day on site I shadow the inspectors and get to learn about project operations, design implementations, and everything else there is to know about a construction site. At the end of the day, I write a daily report on what I’ve observed and learned throughout the day. What have you learned so far? I’ve learned much about #roadwaydesign, how they’re built, and the challenges associated with the process. By being included in project meetings I have gained a basic understanding of the administrative side of project operations as well. Find your next position at FHWA Central Federal Lands ➡ 📍 https://lnkd.in/gDV8zAvi #WeWorkWhereYouPlay #Hiring #CivilEngineering

Developing the Next Generation of Diverse Leaders in Real Estate & the Built Environment @ The Land Collective | Social Impact | Early Careers | DE&I
This season can be particularly rough on second and final year students who are looking for career opportunities. Employers have different timescales, different application processes, dates, requirements etc which can be tricky to manage. For the last few years, The Land Collective have been creating and sharing trackers with our community members, so they can focus on creating quality applications and not on figuring out which applications are open or wondering what the application process will feature - it has proven very successful, so we've decided to change it slightly. Starting this year, this tracker will be live, meaning it will be updated regularly and will feature graduate programmes, apprenticeships, summer internships and pre-university opportunities such as insight days for students currently not at university yet. The types of employers featured in this tracker are: Civil engineering firms, property consultancies, estate agents, developers, planners, construction companies and more. If you know students who would find this helpful, please share with them! In my aim to become more comfortable on camera, I've filmed a bit of an intro and walkthrough 😊

Intern Spotlight! ✨ Name: Amaresh Kumar Tavva What school do you attend? I am getting my Masters of Science in Construction Management at Clemson University. How did you find your internship here at Ruby-Collins? I found this internship through one of my friends who was an intern last year! Then I applied online and started the interview process. Why did you choose a major/internship in the construction industry? I have a passion for working on real and practical projects. There is a deep sense of pride and satisfaction that comes with building structures from seeing a project through conception to completion. What do you do outside of school for fun? I love reading books, traveling to new places, learning how to invest, and watching lots of movies. What is your favorite part of your internship so far? My favorite part of this internship is working in the trenchless division. Being involved in a tunneling project has always been one of my dreams. What was your childhood dream job? To work as a Marine Engineer! #TeamWork #RubyCollins #Georgia #Intern #Internship #ApplyOnline

SCHOOL'S OUT!🎉 No Internship.....is it too late? 😵 Here's 3 quick tips to help you still land that summer internship! Define Goals✏ Before scouring Indeed, LinkedIn, or asking your neighbor if they know anyone, ask yourself, what are your goals, what are you looking to accomplish? To merely say, I need experience and/or job for the summer isn't going to lead you in your direction. Take a moment and ask yourself, what is next in my life? Research Roles💻 Now that you know your goals, now start searching, there are tons of search engines to assist in helping you hone in on your search and don't forget to put quotes in your search. Civil Engineer Internship compared to "Civil Engineer Internship" will give you different results. This knowledge will help you target internships that provide the exposure necessary for your desired career. Evaluate Fit🤸♀️ You defined your goal, you researched your role and now you found a place. Make sure the organization's culture is going to impact YOU and you are getting the most out of your learning experience. You want to ensure the place where you intern at resonates with your own values. Have a great summer! Don't forget......YOU ROCK! #internships #summerjob #goals

CEO Agile Rainmakers | Business Development Consulting | Author of Intern Management and How To Intern Successfully
The debate is over! Interns who have great hands-on experiences like to tell everyone about it. In this video, Nolan, a WisDOT Civil Engineer and former intern, talks at a roundabout project on the State Highway 60 Roadway at Eagle Drive in Jackson, Wisconsin. It is just another day in the life of thousands of construction workers across the U.S. As a construction intern Nolan shared the value of watching something get built while being outside rather than sitting in the office all day. I love this quote: “Working this summer felt less of like a business and more of like a learning community. Everyone was willing to help me. Everyone was willing to teach me. I really enjoyed that and I felt like it would be a great way to spend the rest of my career.” He got to see different job sites and experience different things. He saw that as very valuable in assessing what he wanted to do with his future and chose WisDOT. Principles were most likely at the heart of the way the internship was constructed. So, add that to your punch list. I acknowledge WisDOT for designing a wonderful hands-on internship program and engineering this 2-minute video. They have cemented a positive impression on me and everyone who surveys their work. No need to go in circles in a roundabout. The debate is over. Hands-on experiences are valued by interns. P.S. Now, what would your intern say about their internship with you? No judgment, just look. #management #innovation #internships #wisconsin
