Published today in the 190th issue of the 'Wednesday Magazine'. This time tackling the issue of the 'unavoidable art' of architecture, for the common good. The flexibility philosophy gives us to push the boundaries of knowledge is always so exciting. My gratitude goes to the editor Dr Rahim Hassan and his team. More on: https://lnkd.in/gaJjj2U

The Regenerative Architecture Index (RAI) was unveiled on 12 September hosted by Architecture Today and UK Architects Declare, bringing together professionals from across the industry to reshape the future of our built environment. Responding to three categories - being a good ancestor, co-evolving with nature, and creating space for people - JTP has been named a front-runner in the co-evolving with nature category, and spotlighted as 'one to watch' in five other areas! An extremely proud milestone to have our practice recognised for our regenerative working, projects and ethos. Assessors’ comment: “JTP was setting – and meeting – ambitious targets for BNG and bioclimatic design long before they were mandatory or even fashionable. More impressive still, much of this work is in volume housing – one of the toughest areas to embed change.” Read the Compendium of Best Practice in the Architecture Today issue here: https://lnkd.in/ecFYtWcp #RAI #regenerative #design #architecture #bestpractice #nature #placemaking #team #collaboration
And here it is! The #RegenerativeArchitectureIndex is now live! For each question in the RAI, our assessors have picked out a ‘front-runner’ – the practice deemed to have given the most interesting or insightful response – along with a ‘runner-up’ and a selection of ‘ones to watch’. You can see all these responses which have been published as a ‘Compendium of Best Practice’ in the September-October issue of Architecture Today. Architects - 2X your firm's revenue in 18-24 months. Re-design your firm to provide more freedom, reliable profits, and greater satisfaction! 35+ years experience in creative services.
Architects — Archi-speak is not the problem. Not understanding your audience is the problem. Experts do not hide behind industry jargon. Jargon is a familiar form of communication used within an industry or group. Jargon is learned vocabulary, gained with education & experience. It’s used to shortcut understandings between colleagues and peers. These are all good and valid reasons for using jargon. Jargon is like using verbal emojis. The problem comes when jargon is used to communicate with non-industry contacts, like clients. There is a risk that those people will feel alienated, that they won’t understand you. When you confuse you lose. Effective communication has to consider the audience. The reason we see so much jargon on architecture web sites and marketing materials is because the audience isn’t clarified or understood. You have to know who you are trying to reach and speak in a language they will understand, not your own. Jargon is not about hiding at all, it’s about expressing yourself in a familiar and learned way. What many Architects don’t realize is that it is more challenging to convert jargon into plain language for an extra-industry audience. This is why architects should hire marketers (like ARCHMARK | The Architect Branding & Marketing Agency to help remove the Archi-speak, so you communicate and connect more effectively to your target audiences.
Controversial thought: Architects hide behind cliches & jargon because they find it hard to clearly articulate what they are *actually* trying to say. Do you agree?

Collective Intelligence 2024 was a great place to learn more about living systems and how they exhibit collective intelligence. Since the largest example of human collective intelligence is cities, a new avenue of thinking opens to architects.
