🎙 Podcast Alert! 🎙 Our Energy Storage president Eric Norris joined Fastmarkets' Andrea Hotter to discuss the future of the lithium industry. Norris said there’s a need for better incentive pricing to avoid slowing the energy transition, but there’s still a growing demand for lithium. 📈 He also explained the advantages of Albemarle’s new bidding process and the need for an end-to-end critical mineral and battery supply chain—not just for electric vehicles, but also to secure grid storage and for national security. Excellent episode with some critical takeaways for the industry: -collaboration with Chinese groups is necessary (witness the Albemarle plants operating in China) -lithium hydroxide is arguably not the right product for the mass-market adoption of EV’s (NMC batteries are too expensive) -lithium plants in Australia are too expensive to 1. Build and 2. operate  -walking on a “top-of-the-market” acquisition of Liontown was the right move A few questions still need answers-why do none of the lithium hydroxide plants in Western Australia work? If correctly executed collaboration had been put in place with the right Chinese partners would these plants now be operating? China ramps up these plants inside a year.
