Chief Executive Officer at akt, supporting LGBTQ+ young people at risk or currently experiencing homelessness. Because no one should have to choose between a safe home and being who they are 🏳️🌈🏳️⚧️
This weekend’s Manchester Pride march was the first one I’ve ever done twice, first with akt and then with Centrepoint. It was great to walk and celebrate with young people, colleagues and trustees. Pride is always a deeply moving and inspiring experience so, if you’ve never been, why not get involved in 2025? 🏳️🌈🏳️⚧️
We believe that partnership working is a recipe for success. It allows organisations to share learning and expertise, as well as providing young people with new and varied opportunities.
Which is why we have teamed up with some brilliant organisations this Summer!

The IU Health Foundation has created a sweepstakes to giveaway TWO Eras Tour tickets for her concerts in Indianapolis next month. Donate $100 to Women's Health for your chance to win! 🎤
IU Health’s vision to make Indiana one of the nation’s healthiest states relies on taking care of women, who are a major driver of economic stability and community prosperity; they are nearly 60% of the paid workforce and 65% of unpaid caregivers. However, the facts about women’s health in our state are discouraging. Indiana ranks 36th in women's health outcomes in the US. Indiana has the 10th highest maternal mortality rate in the nation. And one in eight Indiana women will face breast cancer.
But you can help to change that. Your donation can help us transform women's health in Indiana, paving the way for healthier futures. And now through the end of 2024, your gift will be matched by a generous donor, doubling your impact.
Key areas your gift will support are:
❤️🩹Oncology: Providing advanced cancer treatments and support.
❤️🩹Maternal and infant health: Ensuring safe pregnancies, healthy births and enhanced NICU services.
❤️🩹Bereavement: Offering compassionate care for grieving families.
❤️🩹Primary Care: Enhancing access to essential health services.

What do you believe are you capable of now?
What were you told and learned to believe you were capable of as you grew up?
How did your experiences shape your story and behaviour today?
Stevie Mulrooney, an Irish boy from County Kilkenny stole the show at the Ireland v's Italy game at the Aviva stadium this side of the Atlantic last week.
The amazing thing is he is only eight years old.
We should never doubt our own or our children's talents and the human capacity to be brave and rise to the occasion if we are given the opportunity and encouragement.
But we must be given both and the earlier this process of learning what we are capable of happens the better.
Positive learning experiences create confident children.
It is hard not to impact them however because we are hanging out with them so much more as parents.
Plus giving feedback is the second greatest human need after breathing!
We often don't realise we are doing it!
The question is, when we do, does the feedback support their development or limit it by pacifying our fears as the key priority?
Children must learn about risk, how to fall and get back up on their own because we won't always be with them, and this is especially so as teenagers.
If we unconsciously over-manage them keeping them so safe, they can't move beyond their comfort zone, because we are more primed to see danger everywhere based on our own lived experiences, we are doing them a disservice.
What is needed?
To become a lighthouse parent, not a helicopter one.
To be the 'Good Adult' they need in their lives.
This is where you learn to stand back, hold your fear and your breath, and give them the space to explore on their own at a distance.
If they fall on their adventures, they know you are there for them with a helping hand so they can learn to get better without feeling shame and judgement.
Top Tip
Become conscious of your feedback, how often you give it out and what it is saying about you rather than them.
Remember there is often more than one way of getting things done.
But for now, let's celebrate Stevie and may he remind us all our children can shine their light in the world and boy don't we need more of their light being given the space it deserves these days!

Black history is Alberta history, and Canadian history.
#DYK - The Last Best West | Historica Canada.
“At the turn of the century, many Black families in Oklahoma wanted to escape the state’s racial violence and discrimination for a new start in Canada’s ‘Last Best West.’ The Canadian government, however, didn’t want them to settle in those vast, fertile western provinces. To stem the tide of Black immigration, the government began a secret campaign of disinformation. Uncovering this deception from 1911 can help us think more critically about the media we consume today.” #BHM#BHM2024
Black history is American history, but too often that history has not been recorded, acknowledged, or preserved. To support a more inclusive historical record, Opportunity 1888 Foundation seeks to inspire and empower people to preserve the Black American journey.

Georgia is passionate about getting people to connect with their clothes by finding ways to add sentimental value to her designs, which she’ll handcraft alongside five other artisans at Dumfries House in Scotland, headquarters of The King’s Foundation.
