Self-Representation in the #Contemporary_Art Exhibition of ‘Eye to Eye’: Portray in Modern and Contemporary Art, Iran, 2024. #Eye_to_eye, perhaps initially, was a means to confront oneself from an individual perspective. Now, its other aspects range from social and cultural to spatial. The numerous reflections of this exhibition in the virtual space and various images and videos of the long queues to visit it are thought-provoking and noteworthy. It is a rich treasure trove featuring works from renowned artists around the world and Iran, including #Picasso, #VanGogh, #Dalí, #Andy_Warhol, #David_Hockney, as well as #Tanavoli and #Mohassess, and many other artists whose names cannot all be listed here. The theme of the expansion of civil struggles and the effort to re-recognize #identity is mentioned in parts of the exhibition statement. These emphasise attention to #diversity and #plurality in the #interdisciplinary studies of recent decades, where cultural, critical, and artistic studies, as well as existences in urban spaces, among others, all experience diversities influenced by these ideas. full text available on Medium #culture #museum #contemporary_art #city_art #other_space

AN AMAZING VIDEO ABOUT ART CONSERVATION, the career that I chose in the 1980s for the reasons shown and explained in the video (never have I regretted that choice). It illustrates why conservators can be valuable resources in studies of age, attribution, and authenticity, because they spend years studying the chemistry, degradation, and preservation of cultural property - and - years looking very closely at objects. But - and this is important - do not expect most conservators to say whether an object is authentic or inauthentic, misattributed or correctly attributed, old or period, because codes of ethics and guidelines for practice for conservators require a sound basis for such opinions (not mere speculation), and offering such opinions can open them to liability. Rather, listen closely for what conservators say or don’t say about authenticity, attribution, and age; for example, “wouldn’t it be interesting to have this object examined in a laboratory” or “You might ask [so and so] to look at this.” That might be what they are able to say, that you should hear. Hope this helps.
So much work goes into an exhibition before we open our doors. For months, our conservators, curators, and beyond have been busy preparing works for our big fall exhibition “Georgia O’Keeffe and Henry Moore," which features more than 150 works and recreations of each artist's studio. Organized by The San Diego Museum of Art, the exhibition is an unprecedented collaboration with the Georgia O'Keeffe Museum and the Henry Moore Foundation. 🗓️ Member preview begins October 9 before the exhibition opens to the public on October 13—reserve your timed-entry tickets now! http://ms.spr.ly/6044mtYAy

MAATurities is a programme designed for adult and senior audiences, where contemporary themes are explored through artistic discourses featured in the museum's exhibition programme. By fostering open dialogue between different generations and life experiences, the theoretical (online) and theoretical-practical (in-person at the museum) sessions serve as forums for debating and questioning the world around us. We recognise that the languages of contemporary art can sometimes create barriers for the public, yet we also acknowledge that no other period in art history has required such active spectator participation. These encounters have evolved into more than just enriching teatime moments to discuss art; they have become opportunities for human connection, friendship, and a means to escape the challenges of ageing. https://lnkd.in/d-CPnZyF Programme and photo by Fabricia Valente.

JOSHUA SEARLE MUSEO DEL ORO ROBADO MUSEUM OF STOLEN GOLD THU 13 JUN - SAT 10 AUG DAWN TO MIDNIGHT EXHIBITION (VIEW FROM 37 DAVEY STREET FRONT) CUBE 37, GLASS CUBE GALLERY Image: Joshua Searle, (installation detail) Joshua Searle (Australian/Colombian) examines and unpacks Pre- Columbian artefacts held in museum collections encountered through texts, as a means to further understand his own diasporic history and identity as an Australian-Colombian. From an initial examination of collective cultural identity and societal impact to a more individual personal exploration, this exhibition includes paintings exploring practices of institutional collecting and impact of colonisation. Searle undertakes a process of reclamation of his own identity as part of the colonial diaspora, and of the works themselves. Museo del Oro Robado (Museum of Stolen Gold) is a critique of institutionalised practices of theft. For the artist ‘stolen gold’ refers to both the literal and metaphoric gold taken by colonisation.

The importance of the display in an exhibition! The exhibition ‘Hello World. Revision of a Collection’ was on display at the Hamburger Bahnhof - Museum für Gegenwart in Berlin from 28 April to 26 August 2018. ‘Hello World. Revision of a Collection’ is a critical examination of the National Gallery's collection and its predominantly Western orientation: what would it look like today if a more cosmopolitan understanding had characterised its concept of art and its creation? How would an expansion and multiplication of perspectives affect the canon and art historical narratives? Based on these questions, the exhibition unfolds in thirteen thematic chapters as a polyphonic collaboration between internal and external curators across the entire exhibition space of the Hamburger Bahnhof - Museum für Gegenwart - Berlin.’ A canon for situational narratives was developed by the raumlaborberlin Widening the view and placing it in relation to international cultural and artistic production - also in retrospect - gives us the opportunity to see the artworks in a new light. On the other hand, the frames of reference allow us to uncover visible references and gain new perspectives. Based on this dialogue of ‘retrospective vision’, an exhibition concept has been developed that also translates this form of observation, questioning and connection spatially as a starting point and accepts the challenge of providing impulses for the future. #exhibitiondisplay #museumdisplay #museumcollection #curatorialproject #curatorialschool #venice #berlin
