Did you know that 80% of what we learn is visual? Clear vision is important for a child’s success—not just in academics, but in all aspects of life, including their social and emotional well-being. Through the Alcon Children's Vision Program, alongside our partners, we conduct vision screenings for pre-kindergarten through fifth-grade students to identify those who need more comprehensive eye exams, glasses, or treatment. Seeing a child light up the first time they wear their new glasses is an unforgettable experience. The focus on children's eye care has never been more urgent. In recognition of World Sight Day, we understand that clear, healthy vision positively contributes to a child's academic and social development—helping kids learn by helping kids see. Our Children's Vision Program was launched to address the alarming statistic that 1 in 4 school-aged children in the U.S. has an undetected vision disorder. Many of these children don’t realize they need help. Through the work of Alcon volunteers, school nurses, and other partners, we aim to provide essential vision screenings to students from pre-kindergarten through fifth grade to identify those in need and ensure access to comprehensive care. Alcon and Plastic Bank aim to positively affect the lives of people and strengthen the sustainability of our planet. Together, we are stopping plastic pollution from entering our ecosystems and providing plastic collection members with secure income and social benefits.
