#NationalFireNews: August 5, 2024. Currently, 85 large active wildfires are being managed with full suppression strategies nationwide. Wildfires have burned 2,185,273 acres nationwide. During this #FireYear2024, 29,132 wildfires have burned 4,678,064 acres in the United States. While the number of wildfires is slightly below the 10-year average, the number of acres burned is above the average of 3,838,812 acres. Nearly 30,000 wildland firefighters and support personnel are assigned to wildfires, including 24 complex and 4 Type 1 incident management teams, 652 crews, 1,717 engines, 180 helicopters, and six Modular Airborne Fire Fighting Systems, or MAFFS. Evacuation orders are in effect on 20 wildfires. If you live in an area that has been evacuated, please follow the instructions from local authorities. They will provide the latest recommendations based on the threat to your community and appropriate safety measures.
