According to the National Interagency Fire Center 89 large active #wildfires are being managed nationwide, and have burned 2,123,318 acres. So far in 2024, 27,982 wildfires have burned 4,247,895 acres. People have caused more than 25,000 wildfires that have burned nearly 3 million acres. #Lightning ignited about 2,740 wildfires and burned 1.1 million acres. More than 27,000 wildland #firefighters and support personnel are assigned to wildfires, including 29 complex and 6 Type 1 incident management teams, 605 crews, 1,597 engines, numerous aviation resources, and four Modular Airborne Fire Fighting Systems, or MAFFS. Active to extreme fire behavior continues across multiple geographic areas, with evacuation orders in effect on 22 wildfires. The US has been at National Preparedness Level 5 since July 18th. This means that national resources are heavily committed, and additional measures are taken to support geographic areas. Active geographic areas must take emergency measures to sustain incident operations. Inactive/ low activity geographic areas are reaching drawdown levels. Evacuation orders are also in effect for several fires in California, the Northern Rockies and the Great Basin. Its difficult to predict with precision but we know fire behaviour over the last few years has been changing (let's not even get into that). #NationalFireNews: August 13, 2024. As of this morning, 77 large active wildfires are being managed with full suppression strategies nationwide. Current wildfires have burned 2,321,579 acres. More than 28,750 wildland firefighters and support personnel are assigned to wildfires, including 21 complex and 5 Type 1 incident management teams, 586 crews, 1,489 engines, 185 helicopters, and six Modular Airborne Fire Fighting Systems, or MAFFS. Sixty fireline management personnel from Australia and New Zealand are assigned to support large fires in the Northwest Area. For #FireYear2024, 29,547 wildfires have burned 5,224,060 acres in the United States. This is about one million acres above the 10-year average number of acres burned. More than 25,600 wildfires have been caused by people, compared to about 3,700 ignited by lightning. As wildfires continue to threaten communities and natural landscapes, it's crucial that we all do our part to prevent new fires from starting. Remember, it only takes a single spark to start a wildfire, but together, we can prevent them. Evacuation orders are in effect on 18 wildfires. Texas Wildfire Experience Creates a Needed Conversation All states should be having these conversations on how they can defend themselves when there are limited aircraft available for non-federal use. Unfortunately there aren’t enough aircraft to go around and there are long lines to purchase new ones. Firefighters, with significant assistance from aircraft, have successfully gained control over a wildfire that scorched approximately 250 acres on the Fort Hall Reservation. The wildfire, reported around 1:30 p.m. on Sunday near Little Indian Road northeast of Blackfoot, mobilized a swift and coordinated response from multiple fire departments and agencies. The Shoshone-Bannock Tribes confirmed that firefighters from the Fort Hall, Blackfoot, and Shelley fire departments, alongside teams from the Bureau of Indian Affairs and Bureau of Land Management, rapidly responded to the scene. Aerial firefighting support, including large air tankers, played a crucial role in preventing the spread of the flames. By Sunday night, firefighters had successfully contained the blaze, with crews expected to remain on-site until Tuesday evening to extinguish any remaining hot spots. Remarkably, the fire did not result in any injuries, evacuations, or structural damage, as reported by the Shoshone-Bannock Tribes. A firefighting dip, also known as a helicopter dip pond, is a water source for aerial firefighting helicopters. Dip ponds are used when other water sources are unavailable, such as when the nearest body of water is too far away, the local water source is not deep enough, or using local water would cause environmental concerns. If the Rapid H2o is strategically placed near creeks, water hydrants near command locations, parks, and along highways, and can also be easily filled by water trucks, it significantly enhances the firefighting capabilities. By ensuring easy access to water sources, firefighters can quickly and efficiently battle fires. This increases the chances of successfully controlling and extinguishing the fire, minimizing the potential for loss and damage. #fires #firefighters #wildfire #wildfires
