Many Queensland businesses are forging ahead to help make inroads to achieving the state's ambitious renewable energy and waste management targets. Together with key industries, our state is seizing the opportunity by introducing policies and incentives to support clean energy, resource recovery efforts and create future jobs and prosperity for Queenslanders. Three Queensland businesses CS Energy, BlockTexx and JetZero are leading the way in helping achieve our state’s targets by: 🌳Investing in a range of clean technologies to support Queensland’s future energy needs 👖Recycling household textiles into construction materials, playground equipment and household items, and ✈️Reducing aircraft emissions by converting agricultural byproducts into sustainable aviation fuel. Did you know that there are still roughly 2,300 orphaned oil wells across the Osage Nation — a higher concentration per square mile than any state, including oil-rich Texas and Pennsylvania? This has terrible consequences for the land our people, economically and environmentally. What's the value of sovereignty over a poisoned land? The good news is that there are concrete steps being taken to systematically cap these wells and clean up the area around them. The Osage Mineral Council successfully plugged 88 orphaned wells, and we're looking to see how we can support the recycling or upcycling of this decommissioned material with an eye for transitioning to renewable energy alternatives. If you're in the oil and gas industry and looking to help support the communities at the heart of your history, reach out. Cross-sector collaboration is the only way we'll achieve the kinds of sustainability goals we need.

A few things to flag from this article: - The *overwhelming* majority of land cleared in Australia (including koala habitat) is for agriculture. - We also lost 200 times more koala habitat in the Black Summer bushfires than would be cleared if every renewable energy project in the EPBC process went ahead (currently 28 GW). If we don't stop climate change, we can't stop the large-scale loss of habitat caused by fires. - The definition of 'koala habitat' applied by DCCEEW is incredibly broad. Essentially any eucalypt tree, any tree that might be used for shelter, any paddock tree, and all the grassland that connects paddock trees. This is so broad as to make it very difficult to avoid. As always, projects absolutely need to minimise their environmental impact, but (1) we also need to keep an eye on the relative scales of impact, (2) applying very broad definitions of habitat risks becoming unworkable. https://lnkd.in/gAmGPs7b
Thousands of hectares of koala habitat are cleared every year, including for renewable energy projects
