The recent news about Rishi Sunak’s Future Fund, set up during the pandemic to support start-ups, highlights significant challenges in managing and recovering investments. The fund, which lent £1.1bn to 1,191 companies, is now seeking to recover £5m through winding-up petitions against 32 companies. Unfortunately, this has led to 23 of these companies being placed into administration or liquidated. The Future Fund’s approach and the resulting difficulties underscore the challenges in effectively supporting start-ups through turbulent times. This scenario contrasts with the performance of our companies within the One Health Fund, which has a similar focus on innovative UK technology startups (across 'Food', 'Health', and 'Planet'). Our fund companies have seen continued success and up rounds, demonstrating the effectiveness of strategic investment in fostering sustainable growth.
