“To Stay Fighting Fit Singapore Gyms Need New Workout Regimes” Today’s article by Business Times, “RITUAL Gym’s closure of its four branches in Singapore last week sent shockwaves through the fitness community.” “Yet, industry watchers should have seen it coming. The local fitness sector has been plagued by closures. Among them were boutique gyms Fenix Fitness, Haus Athletics, boOm and UFC Gym.” “As more players fight for a smaller slice of the fitness pie, new models are needed”. Are they? Do we need more models? Do we need new workout regimes? According to MOH’s most recent population health survey 40.5% of 20 somethings exercise at least 3x a week. (MOH 2022) And most of the gyms in Singapore compete for this client demographic. But almost 70% of Singaporeans in their 40s and 50s do not do exercise enough. And a staggering 90% of Singaporeans over the age of 55 are classified as frail (SGH 2021). Instead of focusing solely on attracting younger demographics with flashy new offerings, perhaps it's time to consider gyms that cater specifically to the needs of older Singaporeans. By providing tailored programs and a supportive environment, we can help improve the health and fitness of a demographic that is often overlooked. Since the turn of the year, on my weekly Sunday walks, I have seen hardly anyone walking and running, with just a smattering of cyclists not really doing much use on a bike... 23k yesterday, must have passed about 50 other people doing exercise and they were mainly around Marina Bay... Even my friends who use to join me now make excuses to join and are getting increasingly unfit again... very sad
Alexander Mearns you’re welcome. Good for you. I know I’m stating the obvious but it feels good doesn’t it. For me the key is finding something that challenges you mentally and physically and also keeps you present. For me that’s definitely BJJ and having a fantastic coach that understands just how far to push you. There’s no thoughts of emails, relationships and what to have for lunch when someone is trying to tap you out 🤣. That person very much has your attention
So one series on Netflix I've been watching is about BLUE zones, where people more commonly live to over 100 years old And I was super surprised to see an entire episode devoted to Singapore as one of the healthiest nations on earth. The home of the Hainan Chicken Rice 1100 calories fat and salt soaked lunch.
Yes we’ve missed the mark. If you provide good service and value you have a more loyal customer who also understands the importance through lived experience of consistency.
It's OK, lots of different workouts. I tend to throw myself into a fad and then, after a bit, get bored. Then I want to do something different.
