Cool examples of HR’s historical roots to help us understand the current continued deevolution of HR from its’ origins- and not necessarily positive developments. Enjoyed the National Cash Register story of how leadership realized that if the company culture signals it doesn’t care about employees’ well-being then employees are unlikely to care about the quality of the product/service they are delivering. Also insightful is the observation of how changing the name of the function from Personnel to Human Resources indicated a key cultural shift to view people as assets to be deployed to meet business goals without also necessarily focusing on employees’ welfare.
