Which element molds you, transforms you and is part of your full surrounding?   We don't stop to think about it, but #carbon is the foundation of our lives and a crucial element in our entire technological base.   During high school, we referred to carbon as the key element responsible for life here on Earth. The main organic element around us.   But carbon has a much broader facet (complex, disruptive, challenging, and foreboding) participating as the major element responsible, as well, for Global Warming in the form of carbon dioxide or methane.   Yet, within the complexity of this element, we have also found a solution to our environmental challenges: In recent years, the use of carbon-based #nanomaterials has proven to be a key catalyst of efficiency and in the reduction of harmful and polluting elements in our industry.   It’s mind blowing to think about the potential of this element and how it’s one of the crucial as well as disruptive agents in our life, industry, and #technology. A potential that deserves to be studied, referenced, and translated into business opportunities and gains for our society.   Therefore, it was a great honor for me to be invited by Dr. Prof Guilherme Lenz to be part of the #ABCarB Board (Brazil’s National Carbon Association) as Vice-President along with a fantastic team:   * President :: Dr. Guilherme Lenz * Vice-President - Alexandre de Toledo Corrêa * Treasurer - Dra. In recent years, there have been significant advancements in carbon capture and conversion technologies aimed at mitigating climate change and utilizing carbon dioxide (CO2) as a resource rather than a waste product. Recent advancements in carbon capture and conversion (CCC) technology focus on Bioenergy with Carbon Capture, Utilization, and Storage (BECCUS), circular CO2 utilization, and hybrid approaches. Challenges include improving capture efficiency, reducing costs, developing scalable conversion processes, and ensuring the environmental sustainability of CO2 utilization. Additionally, integration with existing infrastructure and policy frameworks poses implementation challenges. Despite these hurdles, ongoing research offers promising solutions for mitigating climate change and transitioning to a sustainable, low-carbon economy. We are thrilled to solidify our ongoing partnership with Equatic.tech by purchasing 746 tons of carbon removal on behalf of one of our client, marking a significant stride in our collective mission. 🚀 Equatic.tech has developed an electrolytic process for atmospheric carbon dioxide removal that leverages the size and scale of the oceans. The process stabilizes carbon dioxide permanently in the form of dissolved bicarbonate ions (in seawater), and in the form of solid mineral carbonates. "Solving problems together" – Excited to be talking about how to accelerate the deployment of #NegativeEmissions at the Swiss Green Economy Symposium later this month 🌱🇨🇭 In our intervention, we'll discuss the opportunities and challenges of scaling #CDR projects, notably BECCS, which offers the double benefits of carbon removal as well as #RenewableEnergy production. 🚀 There is huge potential for #BECCS in Europe. Up to 200,000,000 tonnes of currently-emitted biogenic CO₂ could be removed every year in Europe via BECCS – this represents 5% of the region’s emissions in 2018 (https://lnkd.in/ecmnnkyp). 🌊 $408m has been invested into marine carbon dioxide removal (#mCDR) ventures globally. Given that the ocean covers 71% of the earth's surface, this capital is pretty light when compared to direct air capture ($3.4bn) + reforestation/afforestation ventures ($2.6bn). Marine carbon removal is a mix of approaches leveraging the oceans’ natural processes for absorbing atmospheric carbon dioxide: ⚗️ Ocean alkalinity enhancement amplifies the ocean's natural carbon sink by adding alkaline substances to seawater, converting CO2 into stable bicarbonate and carbonate forms. ⚡ Electrochemical ocean CDR uses electricity to transform seawater into acidic and basic solutions, enhancing ocean alkalinity and precipitating carbonates directly from seawater. 🌿 Restoring blue carbon focuses on restoring coastal ecosystems like mangroves, seagrasses and salt marshes that sequester carbon naturally. 🦠 Microalgae cultivation boosts productivity in oceans by stimulating growth of microalgae. 🚣 Macroalgae cultivation and carbon sequestration involves growing seaweed that captures CO2, with potential uses including biochar and deep ocean sequestration. For #mcDR, there are measurement problems (a diffuse system is a blessing and a curse), regulatory issues and durability questions – but so much excellent work is being conducted by ventures around the globe on #mCDR's potential to support rolling back climate change. ❓ What do you think of #mCDR's potential?
