Here are some top #TNR Do's ✔️DO withhold food from community cats for 24 hours before trapping (but provide water). Cats are more likely to enter the traps for the bait on trapping day. ✔️DO tag the trap. Note down the location of where the trap was set and the description/name of the trapped cat. This helps with return! ✔️ DO count your traps. So you know that you didn’t leave any traps behind, especially ones with cats inside. ✔️DO focus on targeted trapping. Choose a colony or area and try to trap as many cats as possible, or as spay/neuter appointments allow. Learn more at alleycat.org/TNRGuide

Cats are an enigma, and we humans are utterly fascinated by them. Cats have been living with people for 12,000 years, according to scientists. We are still not exactly sure when cats became domesticated, especially since the skeletons of wild cats and domesticated cats discovered at archaeological sites are very similar. Still, most evidence suggests that the domestication of cats occurred more than 8,000 years ago. As if cats were not already so irresistibly cute, they are even more adorable as kittens! Sweet little babies that we just want to hold and cuddle, and once they start purring, our hearts simply melt. National Kitten Day is when we spoil and pamper our little fur babies. Created by animal advocate and pet expert Colleen Paige, National Kitten Day is also an opportunity for abandoned kittens to be adopted into loving homes. While many of our kittens will be given special treatment today, countless kittens don’t find homes. Left alone at shelters, on roadsides, or in the wild, National Kitten Day doubles as an awareness campaign to save these babies and give them the love they rightfully deserve. 🐾💕 #NationalKittenDay #Kittens #Cat #Awareness #Catmoms #Catlife #Catlover #catsoftiktok #catsoffacebook #AdoptDontShop #BHHS #Bhhsne #bhhsneproperties #Connecticut #Newyork #Georgia #Cobbcounty #Fultoncounty #Manhattan #Realtor #Realtorlife #isellhomes #AlyssaLocascioRealtor

One of the major challenges resides in the differing views on the best way to approach helping canines find their forever home the first time. Shelters are overwhelmed with dogs being returned. Dogs are all too often viewed as commodities. A fix the problem(s) or return them mentality is unacceptable, in my opinion. Impulse adoption of any dog that may not be suitable for a family's lifestyle or household dynamics is one of the root causes perpetuating this revolving door. Adding any dog to one's family is a lifetime commitment. Every dog is unique. Each has a story. Adding a canine to any family requires time, careful thought, and an understanding of everything that will follow. Family dynamics should include everyone living in the home, frequent visitors as well as other animals living in the home. Meet and greets are important. Once you place that leash on the dog you've chosen, you are responsible for them. Remember - #dogsarefamily
