Just before the holidays, we had a chance to have Dart Lindsley on the EXchange stage. As Dart continues to advocate for us treating work like a product and employees as customers, Stephanie Denino ask him a number of questions about relying on product management principles to design better work. One of those questions: How might the product of work be decomposed into product lines? Check out their exchange below. PS: members can check out more snippets or the full recording in the Exchange member portal

Let me tell you a story about a nightmare project I consulted on back in 2019. The founders were on a rush to develop their custom eCommerce platform. So, they just jumped in and started building the product! No requirements documentation, no specifications, no tech evaluations - nothing. A few months later, I joined their team. It was a huge mess! Developers were super confused because scope had derailed way beyond the original concept. And, guess what? After wasting tons of time and money, we had to restart from scratch. It was a hard lesson for them. However, they were fortunate enough to launch it successfully. But in most cases, it becomes a failed attempt. Always plan before you build! At a minimum, you should align on: 1. Detailed product requirements documentation 2. Product Roadmap Planning 3. Minimum viable product scope 4. Technical feasibility analysis 5. Realistic estimate for budget and schedule You should understand by now, building a great product is not an easy job. At Kinetik Dynamics, we religiously refuse to let clients start building blind. We guide them through aligning all planning and preparation essentials first. If you need help, do not hesitate to reach out. I am just one DM away. Cheers.
