6 weeks!! is all it took for France to fall to German strategy in WWII.
Assumption that Germans would take broader route through Belgium and German tanks can't cross Ardennes forest. Lack of leadership, tactical and intelligence failure - made a mockery of a nation. French were too arrogant to be preparing for imminent war!
2023/24: Formula 1.
Two of the lousiest drivers (both French!! ) and a new team manager who has never been on the spot as a team principal in formula 1 !! that's Not glory in taking up a challenge - that's outright arrogance and balderdash!!
To say I don't know this business, but I can figure it out - will come at a cost. It's called core competency Monsieur!!! It takes more than bravado.
Underestimating what it needs for a team to win, what is the backdrop of the team and the appeasement culture ( does he know French?, does he know French well enough?? - are not questions that a team should be asking!! )
2 times DNF in a single year - 1st time in Formula 1 history!! What were the French waiting for? to conspire and fire the man who was doing his job!!
6th Rank!! is where the French arrogance led it's Formula 1 team - Alpine to. Circle seems complete eh? With Renault engine - which has a history of being unreliable ( thrown out by Christian Horner)?
A post about Safety, Formula 1 and 30 years of Ayrton Senna passing
Safety is of utmost importance in any industry, especially in high-risk environments like Formula 1. The tragic events at the Imola Formula 1 Grand Prix 30 years ago serve as a stark reminder of the importance of prioritizing safety measures.
The untimely death of Ayrton Senna, a revered sports hero, shook the world and prompted a critical reevaluation of safety standards within Formula 1.
Beyond the emotional impact, Senna's passing underscored the need for vigilance in identifying and addressing potential safety risks before they escalate into tragedies.
Factors such as poor housekeeping, leadership detachment from operational realities, and misaligned key performance indicators can all contribute to an unsafe work environment. It's imperative for organizations to remain proactive in identifying and mitigating these risks to ensure the well-being of their workforce.
While Senna's death was a profound loss, it catalyzed positive change within Formula 1, leading to significant advancements in safety protocols that continue to save lives today.
As we reflect on this somber anniversary, let us recommit ourselves to the ongoing pursuit of safety excellence in all aspects of our professional endeavors.
Below is a picture all Brazilians would have dreamed about seeing, painted by an Ukrainian artist, named Oleg Konin, depicting Senna leaving his car alive.

I was sailing last Saturday, at the Royal Mersey Yacht Club. ⛵️
As usual, I turned up on my motorcycle as it’s easy to find a space in the boat yard (any excuse to ride) and was surprised to find 2 other bikes there already (I’m usually the only one there). I joked about soon having to start up a “Royal Mersey Motorcycle Club” and got talking with the two other bike owners, before the regatta.
It turns out, one of the guys had seen my bike in the yard two years ago when he first joined the club. He liked it so much that it inspired him to - His words - “Go get off my arse. Stop making excuses. Get a bike license. Get a bike.” 🏍️
I heard how he had already completed several touring trips on his bike and has more stuff planned - including a new bike purchase. He is loving it. He’s even got a pannier to fit his sailing gear.
As he told me all this, I confess, I felt a combination of both gratitude and pride. He didn’t have to say anything at all. 🤯
So I enthusiastically thanked him, wished him well and asked him to keep me posted on the new bike.
I went on finish 3rd in the regatta despite starting dead last…
The difference between a person, and one who is inspired and motived, is HUGE….
It’s good to be reminded of this every once in a while and its prompted me to make some changes to try to drive more inspiration and motivation in my team here at Leadership Services.
What will you be doing to inspire your teams?
PS. here she is - meet “Wee Aggie”. I’ve had her since new and she’s unrecognisable after all the customisations. She’s getting a bit elderly in bike years (like her owner) but I wont ever let her go.

Yesterday, at an Iftar Conference, I had the honor of presenting the new PERFORMANCE MODEL of Fath Union Sport - FUS to a diverse group of athletes, staff, and managers across various sports divisions.
Central to any organization aiming to nurture High Performance 🥇 is the establishment of a safe environment
The core values of Fath Union Sport - FUS shape our club culture. These can be encapsulated in the acronym FATH: 1- Fidelity (Loyalty), 2- Ambition, 3- Tenacity, and 4- Humility.
The Performance Model itself is a virtuous cycle anchored on three key pillars:

Each pillar is supported by insights from renowned high performers in the world of sports, including Toto Wolff 🏁 (Team Principal at Mercedes F1 Team), Sir Dave Brailsford 🚴 (Director of Sports at Ineos, Former Head of Team Sky Cycling) & Tim Grover 🏀 (Personal trainer of Michael Jordan & the late Kobe Bryant)

Lewis Hamilton’s recent victory at the 2024 British Grand Prix is a testament to resilience and teamwork in Formula 1. Securing his 9th British GP win at 39, Hamilton has made history Silverstone. Just watched "The Boys in the Boat" and wow, what a ride! Even though I knew how it would end, I found myself completely caught up in the drama. But it was after the credits rolled that something really hit me.
You know what's fascinating about rowing? To make the boat go forward, every single teammate faces backward. Yet somehow, they work with a shared purpose, perfectly aligned in their process, and laser-focused on constantly improving their performance as a team. For those boys, that dedication and unity led to Olympic gold.
It got me thinking about our own teams at work and in life. Are we all facing the same direction, metaphorically speaking? Are we truly aligned in our goals and processes? And most importantly, are we constantly striving to improve our collective performance?
In our fast-paced world, it's easy to get caught up in our individual tasks and lose sight of the bigger picture. But just like those rowers, our success depends on how well we work together, how in sync we are, and how committed we are to our shared goal.
So today, I'm challenging myself – and you – to think about this: What are you doing to make your team go forward? Are you rowing in harmony with your colleagues, or are you unknowingly creating drag? It's worth pondering because when we truly come together, who knows? We might just achieve something golden too.
Do any of you know him?

Michael Jordan was one of the most competitive athletes ever and he went on to say that what he meant by this quote was that he will do what it takes to win, whether that is to play as a team or play as an individual if that is what is needed.
“We will all have our ‘I’ moments but I know that my ‘I’ moments have been because of the people I have worked with”.
In every sport this the same.
Effective teams have their sights set on the same end goal. A healthy workplace will show mutual respect between team members and management. In addition to this, teammates appreciate what each person can bring to the table, and how different strengths and skill sets can really complement each other. All in all, working as a team is about combining forces to achieve fantastic results.
How to achieve this mentality within an athlete:
- Maintain a Team-First mentality
- View the change as an opportunity to broaden the skillset
- Embrace the challenge
- Commit to learning the nuances of the position
- Dedicate themselves to be the best they can be at their new position
In cycling this position can change day by day. One of the sports where flexibility is key. But where always the Team-First mentality is the most important. In what position you are.
Have a nice 3 weeks enjoying @letourdefrance and maybe you can spot the position change in some teams.

🏆#TeamEmirates Team New Zealand made history in Barcelona this weekend, claiming victory in the 37th America's Cup and securing an unprecedented third consecutive win. Huge congrats to all my Kiwi friends and family! Nga mihi!
🇳🇿For a nation of just 5 million people, where 45% of the population are regular sailors and the America's Cup is practically a religion, this achievement is monumental. No team has ever won the America’s Cup three times in a row—until now. This victory is not just a testament to their talent on the water, but to their relentless passion, innovation, and teamwork.
🚀How did #TeamNewZealand achieve this groundbreaking win? Here are three key reasons:
🔴 Constant #innovation and #improvement: Team New Zealand's success is
deeply rooted in their culture of relentless innovation. Every race is a learning opportunity, and their mantra has always been, "How can we make the boat go faster?" This mindset has kept them ahead of the curve, ensuring that they are always pushing the boundaries of technology and performance. Their commitment to continuous improvement means they never rest on their laurels, even after historic wins.
🔴 Technical superiority of their boat: New Zealand didn’t just race the AC75—they invented it. Their second-generation AC75, Taihoro, was a marvel of cutting-edge design and technology. From its automated control systems to its ability to handle complex maneuvers with precision, Taihoro was a game-changer. This technical edge, combined with brilliant tactical execution, made the Kiwis almost unbeatable on the water.
🔴 Exceptional teamwork strong leadership: The leadership of skipper Peter Burling was crucial in this historic victory. Known for his calm and calculated approach, Burling, along with helmsman Nathan Outteridge and other crew members, formed an unbeatable team. Their ability to communicate and operate in perfect harmony, especially under intense pressure, allowed them to outperform their rivals consistently
🥇Team New Zealand’s triumph in the 37th America's Cup isn’t just about their boat or their talent—it’s about their commitment to a winning culture. Whether in business, creativity or sports, there’s a powerful lesson here: never stop improving, always innovate, and rely on the strength of a unified team.
